£900 folly Upgrade g). Additional oil dipstick under bonnet

This is a great and simple upgrade, as described by MtlCarGarge here.

My inspection panel dipstick has suffered the regular problem of the end breaking off. As it is 1.4 petrol, replacements are expensive (as opposed to the diesel ones), and they are not reknowned as being accurate anyway.

A quick eBay search found this combined dipstick and yellow tube for £12, which is what a lot of tubes alone are going for. I did not see much risk here, as they cannot really break (these dipsticks are not plastic).
They can be sourced from any VAG 1.4 petrol as long as it is the same engine. I think they are 560mm long.
I had the original yellow T tap, as in the photo, so all I had to do was pull that off, and then push on the yellow tube till it clicks, and put in the dipstick. For me, it was a lot easier than on the video.
I did run some bicycle cable up and down the lower tube section, just to give it a clean, as it has never been used, so there may have been gunk in there.

All this told me was I had no oil in the engine!

As I could not check it, neither could the previous owner, so I have no idea how long this had been the case. A couple of litres of Shell Helix 5W40 went straight in, and another 500ml once settled. The tappets are a lot quieter now......

Cheers

Matt

Another good fix and just in the nick of time by the sound of it. There is another non-expensive solution - @depronman on here does 3D-printed replacement dipstick ends. I'm sure he'll be in touch with you shortly.
