5w 40 fully syn oil

Got this from Oilmans site Opie:

"505.00 specification; the oldest VW specification for diesel cars. Now only really relevant only to pre 2000 diesel cars (with or without turbocharger). For diesels from 2000 onwards, the VW 505.00 specification has largely been superceded by the 505.01, 506.00, 506.01 and 507.00 specifications"

i have just topped up my A2 1.4tdi (75bhp) with 5w 40 fully syn oil (505.00) is this ok?

Just to comfirm Automatic's post on the VW specs for diesel A2s -

50500 is an old spec for non PD diesel engines - so you risk damage to the camshaft with prolonged use in your A2 diesel PD engine (which has camshaft activated injectors)

50700 or 50601 oils are suitable for Long Life services

50700 or 50501 oils are suitable for std services

thanks for the advice, whay are the service intervals on long life and standard services

cheers

Long Life oil change interval - When the service indicator tells you, 2 years or 30k miles - which ever happens first. Note if you do lots of short journers, the service indicator may come on at less than 10k miles.

Std oil change interval - One year or 10k miles which ever happens first.

As our cars are all several years old its advisable to stick with the std service intervals

Cheers Spike
