A2, unfortunately not the car for me!

Hi all,

Wasn't sure how to write this or even where to place it really as I think it covers a few things.

A little backstory before I get to my question: I bought my 2002 A2 1.4 petrol back in November 2023 with 65k on the clock for £2900. Originally the idea was to maintain it myself to some degree, getting my hands dirty inside a bonnet for the first time.

Unfortunately I had a few issues which were completely out of any comfort zone but managed to sort by going to a couple of garages, etc. It all started with an engine light that was popping up from time to time which the garage I took it to that were classed as an Audi Specialist garage, told me that they weren't sure what was going on and I needed to try somewhere else. They did manage to find an issue with the oil sump that they couldn't replace and had to fix instead, that plus a service ended up costing me the better part of £700.

After that was a wheel alignment due to some steer drifting which fixed half of the problem, followed by a whole new set of tyres which fixed the other half of the problem for £350 all in.

Turns out that an oil light that popped up from time to time was due to the dip stick not getting enough purchase on its seat. As soon as I cleaned up that bit a little and seated it properly, no more oil light.

Now, the only thing with it is it's not what I would classify as ideal for the motorway. This wasn't a problem at first as I was going to be using it for light city work, nothing serious. In the last couple of months I've been travelling further a field for work and pleasure and found that this just isn't completely for me. I realised after getting it that working on the car on my drive doesn't feel great and don't have a garage to be in my own space, try out a few things and if need be leave it part open and come back to the next day.

I've always been interested in these little b****rs and I'm pretty gutted that it's not working out the way I wanted but here we are.

Enough of my moaning.

Actually down to the question: Where do I go from here? I would love for her to go to a new home that could look after her properly. If anyone has any suggestions on the best way to go about this I would be highly appreciative.

Also, I apologise if this isn't the right place to post something like this, I just wasn't sure where or how to go about it. Don't do me a lot of forum stuff to be honest but don't want to go against any rules or anything.

Hope you're doing well,

James

Hi James,

Sorry to hear an A2 hasn't worked out for you. If you decide you want to sell, I would advise you to upgrade your account on here to get access to our Market place. Click on your profile name in the black menu bar, select Account Upgrades (there's only the one), there'll be a one-time payment of £2 via Paypal and you're done. The Market will then appear on the menu bar, and you can then advertise your car on here where the audience is in tune with everything that A2's are and the real value of them. Please note that any item advertised for sale in our Market place must state a price - just 'offers' is not acceptable, although adding 'or reasonable offer' after a target price is fine.

Battersea (Petrol AUA 1.4) is rather offended at the suggestion of being unsuitable for motorway travel and even has a speeding ticket (A34 dual carriageway) to prove it, (81mph, seein' you asked)

Hums along happily at comfortable speeds and is generally showing 46 mpg on my wonderful DIS. (Many thanks @timmus and a speedy recovery, Sir)

Lots of motorway work done.

Sorry Battersea but my heart belongs to the Tdis and FSIs, it’s hilly up here and I like being able to sit at a little over 70 going up hills…
