ABS/Anti Skid warning lights

Hi - need some expert help -

My A2 Sport (1.6 FSi /2003 model / 47000miles) has suddenly developed the above warning. It appears intermittently (along with the chime), but occurs most times I drive the car. Audi want to charge £120.00 for a diagnostic check, but can only do this when the lights are lit up!

Has anyone had this fault before? I'm hoping this is not going to be expensive!

Help!

Regards,

Darren

As you have a Sport model, presumably with the 17" wheels, I suspect that what you are experiencing is a worn ABS loom, which is a known fault and has been the subject of a Technical Bulletin by Audi UK.

If you can, get to a member with VAG COM capabilities (maybe Spike in Richmond), who can give you a scan for a lot less.

Also, take a look behind the wheels at the front to see if there is any sign of chaffing.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I've had the car for the past 2 years, and switched to 16" SE wheels approximately 12 months ago. Prior to that I'm sure the car was run on the 17" wheels (which now have pride of place in my garage!)

Is the ABS loom a big job? If its a know fault by Audi UK, do you think will they'll make a good will gesture?

Love the A2 - but I've been disappointed with the faults!

Regards, Darren

Darren,

You should have a look for any wearing on the cables behind the front wheels and if there is any, get down to a dealer to have the modified wiring harnesses fitted (they were shorter which meant that there was less slack to hang out and get worn away).

You may be able to ask customer services whether the mod was done (it should have been).

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Darren

Send me a PM if its not the ABS sensor leads and you want a VagCom diagnostic scan doing.

Cheers Spike

I had this problem with my abs.
When using vagcom it showed a electrical fault with RHS ABS sensor so i replaced it and it was still the same.

Further inspection showed that the alloy wheel had worn through the ABS wiring loom. I rewired it and fitted 5mm wheel spacers and all is fine now.

I was running 17" alloys at the time.
