I got my A2 when it was 9 months old, and before I bought it, I took a A4 1.8T Sport with a D.I.S fitted for a test drive. It was the best toy I have ever seen in a car.

I'm really regreting buying a A2 without a D.I.S.[V] has anyone got one, or contacted their dealership to have one fitted. They are a £220 extra when new. It's probably too much trouble to get one fitted after sale.

Any suggestions?

Neil,

The CANbus (wiring) on each A2 is unique to the options that are fitted at the factory. I have checked this out with Audi UK who confirm that such items as the DIS facility are totally impossible to retro fit.

I'm sure you could strap an old bike wheel to the rear of your A2 along with a bike computer-it may work.......

Sorry, jokes are not the best from me!.

Have you asked Tesco's if they offer retro-fit DIS?.

Oh dear they get worse!...

I might be missing the point completely as I'd never heard of CANbus before visiting this forum but from my understanding, and having a quick search around the net, is it not possible to just attatch more devices which are CANbus enabled. I found the following info on the Becker Audio site.
**
CAN is a serial bus system with multi-master capabilities, that is, all CAN nodes are able to transmit data and several CAN nodes can request the bus simultaneously. In CAN networks there is no addressing of subscribers or stations in the conventional sense, but instead, prioritise messages are transmitted. A transmitter sends a message to all CAN nodes (broadcasting). Each node decides on the basis of the identifier received whether it should process the message or not. The identifier also determines the priority that the message enjoys in competition for bus access.
**
Going by the above, if the relevant plug was spliced into the network and a DIS unit (which I assume is a classed as a CAN node)plugged in, would it not just work[?][?]

Feel free to shoot me down in flames[^]

Sounds logical to me Neil. The CAN bus is (as you say) a simple (?) serial bus, so logically any device with the correct address mapping should be able to be connected and work.
However, I'm not an Audi engineer (or dealer) - maybe the technology seems too complicated to the dealers, so it's easier to reply - 'it can't be done'.

I agree that the DIS is a super toy - I used to love watching the fuel consumption drop to 5 mpg when I floored the loud pedal in my S3! The term toy is appropriate though, I don't think it's really essential!

I asked whether I could get the dash converted to have the Alu rings on. The answer I got was that the whole dash is different and that it is different again for the DIS model

I've had a number of other Audis and they've all had the computer and are great fun. With the small tank on the A2 a range function should be compulsory !

Next time I'm getting one with DIS.

I'd love to find a company that could make some alu rings for the non DIS spec UK car!

DIS is very entertaining. I like to leave mine on MPG, and feel very smug when I do so (diesel of course)!

Guys-I've seen something somewhere about someone (lot's of somes there) wanting to get the rings fitted to the instruments, and a company on the net that offers them for other Audi's (apart from the A2).

This A2 owner approached the company and I think they said it was a possibility. I'll try and dig out the post from my archive and in the meantime you can do some search engine work to see if you can find the company.

Runboy - anything you find out, please let me know!! I can almost guarantee that I'll be able to get a discount off them for all the club members. Plus I'd love them myself!

How small? What's the range? I'm looking to change from my Punto with over 50 litres and 500 miles respectivly, does the A2 get near it?

The tank on 2003 spec cars is now 42 litres. Before this it was 35 litres.

On a theoretical 50mpg that gives 461 miles to a tank for new A2's and 385 miles for pre 2003 spec cars.

Steve/Stuart,

I mailed to a german firm, but haven't had no answer yet. Indeed they wanted to try something, but it seems it didn't work? See the other topic "Aluminium pack".
