Auto gearbox problems on 1.2Tdi

Any one ever had their 1.2Tdi auto refuse to change gear properly and require switching off otherwise the engine cuts out. Sounds like an electrical problem to me but I am being told a new auto gearbox is required. Happy to change the box but not convinced that this is the problem. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It could be that the hydraulic oil level is too low, caused by a leak(?). The engine cuts out because the clutch and gear change are disabled and therefore stalls. Check the level by disconnecting the hydraulic pump electrically (plug) and turning the accumulator 1/2 turn anti-clockwise. Check the level, should be within the reservoir window, and top up with power steering oil from VW/Audi. Tighten accumulator, reconnect the hydraulic pump and that's it. Check for leaks, particularly the gear actuator (back of gearbox).

Unlikely to be the gearbox which is just a lightened manual gearbox.

Other thing to check is electronic gear selector switch under gearstick might need changing - this caused many problems for folk like getting stuck halfway across crossroads or getting stuck in traffic in E mode.
