Boot won't shut

Hi,

Can you help me?

The boot of my A2 refuses to close - this is my 2nd A2 and I remember my first one having a slightly dodgy boot.

I appreciate I'll probably need to take it to a garage but wondered whether anyone else has had this problem and whether a non-audi garage would be able to fix it?

Any help would be great!

Ta,

Vicky

Hi Vicky, welcome to the A2oc
There are a few possibilities.
If it can be 'slammed' shut then the catch at the bottom of the boot opening may just need adjusting which is a 15min job.
If the lock has been accidently closed with the tailgate slightly open then the catches in the tailgate lock may just need to be released - a 5 min job.
Worst case would be if the lock has failed. The part costs around £25 plus 1/2 to 1 hrs labour to fit. Any garage should be able to do this.

Cheers Spike

Not sure if the A2 has this but when this happened on my A4 avant it was the solenoid failing in the unlock position, stripped off the rear tailgate cover and disconnected this allowed the boot to be closed, as the A2 doesn't have a tailgate key you won't be able to open without resortingto the pull wire in the boot.

Hi,

Thanks for you advice.

The problem is the tailgate hook won't close around the loop in the bumper....apologies for my lack of technical terminology:eek:. No amount of slamming will make it lock.

I've booked it into the Audi garage on Friday & want to appear like I have an idea what's going on so I don't end up with an enormous bill:)

With the boot open, you should be able to open and close this hook with the key fob (it's the bit that is in the middle of the bit that sticks out from the lift-up part of the boot - is this right?).

If it won't move in this way, you can try it manually (literally, shove it with your finger) and if this doesn't work, it sounds like the solenoid (the motor that actuates the moving part) is goosed!

Cheers,

Mike
