Central Convenience Control Unit J393 Error 01330

Dear gang,

Oh what a merry time I have had with my A2 lately! Recently have been returning to my car to find the hazards flashing. Basically the alarm (the siren battery has died) has been activating even thought the car is locked. I noticed the door lock was not springing back into the vertical position, so have had it changed - presuming that this may be the reason for the car thinking its still unlocked and activates the alarm (when opened and locked using the key.) but alas... no!

a VAG-COM has stated the control unit is defective. Done a little research on the net, and seems A4's have a big problem with them. And when I speak to Audi, they have 183 of the little blighters in stock at MK.... mmm, interesting! and at £200 its not entertaining!

Has anyone had any problems with theirs? Does anyone know where it is situated? and do I really have to buy one from Audi uk?

Hope you can help. I love the car... but this is bothering me now!..lol

thanks!

Hi Darren,

Yes, the J393 central convenience control unit is prone to failure, especially on earlier versions for some reason.

The unit itself is in the compartment in the passenger footwell and is the black box directly under the panel.

I am somewhat puzzled as to what you've had replaced - something not springing back to the vertical? There is nothing (that I can think of) that fits your description. If you;ve had the alarm unit replaced, then it looks like a new central convenience ECU, but if poss, try a known working one first. They are easily swapped over and dont require recoding.

Let us know how you get on.

Oh, if you join the A2OC and become a paid up member, you can get 10% off parts at VagParts.com, but follow the claiming instructions elsewhere on the site.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, thanks.. I thought it was going to be that.. Am off to Germany in January.. I may try and get one there!

in relation to the door lock. Basically I was using the key to lock the car. The blipper seemed to trigger the hazards after a few minutes. But when I put the key in the lock, turned it to the right to unlock, and then back to the left to LOCK it just stayed there. It did not spring back to the centre (vertical) if that makes sense. The guy I take the car to said this may be the issue, but clearly not. £90 later and a new lock.. but still an A2 that loves it hazard lights!
