'Clack' 'Clack' from front nearside

My attack hamster [2002 1.4 TDI] has developed a definite 'clack-clack' kinda noise when driven over poor road surfaces. It comes from the front nearside usually at low speeds and is one 'clack' followed promptly by another 'clack'.

I cannot duplicate this when the vehicle is stationary no matter how hard I bounce the front end. The shocker seems OK and the legendary ARB plasticky bits are still in-situ. I had it tracked recently and the techy didn't discover anything un-toward

Hi libero

If the roll bar bushes are ok then the most likely cause is worn drop links. These metal rods, with a balljoint at each end, connect the roll bar to the suspension strut. It only requires a tiny ammount of free play in one of the joints for them to become noisy so nothing is obvious from a visual inspection

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike. I suppose the front nearside drop link would go first due to the extra work it has to do bouncing in and out of sunken grids and the like.
