Concert 1 instead of a Concert 2?

Hi
I have a 2001 1.2 TDI. It originally came with a faulty Chorus 1 which I replaced by a Concert 2 and CAN bus wires plus I retrofitted rear speakers and amplifier. Works very well except that it has soft touch paint which is starting to come off…

I want to go back to a Concert 1 without soft touch paint like the rest of the controls in my car.

Is that a direct swap or do I need to modify the wiring again?

Yes you’ll need to reverse the retrofit you done to make the Concert 2 work.

Shouldn’t take too long if you can remember how you first done it. Is the switch live pin still safely tucked away or was it cut.

Or just leave the concert 2 in and either replace the buttons or fit the button stickers.

Strikes me the best solution would be for James(@jp.oog) to refurbish the Concert II but I do not know if he has the stencils, you would have to ask him (on Facebook).

The climate control panel is satin black ie without soft touch paint, and I really prefer that look IMHO. I addition, the Concert 1 units are easy to find, and can manage both amplifier/rear speakers and the bluetooth interface.

I cannot remember which wires I changed... I remember I routed wires from the instrument to CAN high and low on the radio but not which ones I took out...

I guess I have to pull it apart to refresh my memory!

I saw the stencil refurbish of the buttons on youtube - quite impressive! I am not sure I want to do the radio right now, it is not bad but the faded look of the soft touch paint just really annoys me...
