Diesel Oil Filter Pattern

Hi All

Last time I changed the filter on our 1.4TDI, using a genuine VAG filter, I noticed that the pattern was no longer the delicate zig zag of old but straight up and down.
I guess the zig zag pattern filter is no longer available at dealers? does anyone know of supplies elsewhere?
I remember a post on here (but I can't find it) talking about the surface area and better filtration of the zig zag pattern type.

Correct - Audi dealers now only stock the new straight lines type and I know of nowhere that the zigzag type is sold now.

Loss of the zigzag pattern with VAG oil filters seemed to coincide with change of country of origin. The Mann Filters catalogue, which would be a good substitute, also show straight rather than zigzag. Looks as if the latter is gone for good.
 
I would still go for the Audi OE part and replace on a strict regime. I change filter and oil every 10k miles, genuine parts and Castrol Edge oil every time.

As a point of interest, the filter used yesterday for Riverlad was back to the zigzag pattern!

It does seem to be a tighter weave although the one I removed from his car was straight lined (and a genuine VW part too - albeit the wrong part number!!!).
