i noite formt eh site that this is a fairly common problem. My car, bought last week, does this booming thing too related to throttle movement and not all the time.

Thwe suggested reason is logical and very plausible. Does anyone know how fix it and what the cost is?

Is it DIY possible?

I have salso bought a chip from germany to uprate the power etc by 20%.
Any suggestion as to how to install it and where? The photos sent are of an A4 motor, so not very usefull!

I am in Newcastle - any one nearbye? This car was hard to find as they all seem to be in the Home Counties, certainly all the high spec ones anyway

Hi Bill, welcome to the A2oc.
The 'mooing' noise does not mean the egr valve is sticking. The official dealer fix is to isolate part of the valve with anti vibration mounts to stop vibration resonating inside the cabin when the valve operates. Some club members have had this done under warranty but no one has let us know exactly what the fix was.
If your chip was relatively cheap then its likely to be a box with a resistor inside which fools one of the sensors into overfuelling the engine. If so, think twice about fitting it - see link for more info
