Emission control system light

I have a 16fsi 05 plate, this evening after sitting in the garage for a few days, I’ve noticed the Emission control system light staying on – incidently its -1 outside, don’t know if this has anything to do with it – took it for a 15mile run and no noticeable power loss.
Read somewhere that Audi cars 95 0nwards, this sensor last up to 100000 miles, over 5 times longer than my car has done.
How long will I be able to drive the car until irreparable damage occurs, as I doubt I’ll get to see an Audi dealer over the holidays.
Can it be replaced DIY

I’d be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

The temperature is unlikely to be a cause for the light being on and also, the light isn't just a sign of emission control problems either.

To be able to give a meaningful response, a full diagnostic scan is the only real way forward. Look for a member in your area that has a full version of Vag-COM.

This page is growing all the time, so check back for more possible scanners:

Thanks Mike,

Thought I’d keep you up to date.

Saw Audi Glasgow on the 17th, as they had no cars available for 3 weeks it was suggested to go home and phone ‘Road Side Assist’ (Also pre booked it in for the 31st Dec on a first come first served basis, as pointed out no courtesy car, so possibly it will be a long day)
Got home phoned RSA, guy arrived did a diagnostic using a VAS5051B (VW –Audi approved System) and instantly came up with a faulty ‘Actuation Intake manifold Flap’ for air flow control (part Code N316)
Was told by the extremely helpful gentleman, that he didn’t have that part but it should be fine to drive (distance & style within reason). Told me to phone Audi, tell them the part no, so as they could order in if need be & hopefully speed up things as it should take 15 – 20 min’s to fit.
But not good enough, master technician wants to do scan again (This I can understand) just means that the job may not be done that day if part needs to be ordered.
Do you think this will be covered under warranty?
If not, it’s just a pity as if RSA fixed it; it wouldn’t have cost a penny.

Anyway thanks again

Pat

Hi Pat
For me, this fault should definitely be covered under warranty on an 05 model car. Generally the only things not covered for the full 3 years are 'wear' parts like brakes and clutches.
Thanks for keeping us updated.

Cheers Spike

I concur with Spike - if it the flap or the actuating motor, either should be replaced free of charge under warranty.

Cheers,

MIke
