engine misfiring

Hello ladys and gents. Bought an a2 1.6 fsi sport last week, its an 02 model with 41k on the clock. Have to say i really love the car, however it has developed a misfire low down the rev range when using partial throttle, sitting on the motorway at 70mph and maintaining a speed it is hesitating badly. Does not misfire when your foot is to the floor at all but more whenever you accelerate gradually. Seems to go back on the power after around 3-3.5,000 revs. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Ive replaced all the plugs and coilpacks and a camshaft position sensor with no benifit whatsoever! iI really am at a loss and so is my mechanic as there are no fault codes at all coming up. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as im completly stumped. thanks.

yes mate. running 97 ron bp ultimate. cant get 98 ron fuel over here. bit of a mystery, no engine management light on and no fault codes

i assume that it the fuel filter was replaced at the last documented service at 31k. must get the fuel filter replaced just incase. it might be something to do with the fuel pump although i hope not. Had a diagnostic check carried out on the car a few times with no result, all clear! strange that! you would have thought that some sort of indication woul have come up as usually if you look at them the wrong way a light comes on!

I think you're going down a blind alley with the fuel filter - you say that on full pedal to the floor acceleration, there is no hesitancy? If this is the case, it is under these conditions that a fuel filter would be the culprit, as it would be the bottle neck for max flow.

I'd suspect either the MAF (air mass sensor) and/or the throttle body, which may either need cleaning or aligning, or both.

The alignment procedures are easily done with a full copy of VCDS (was VAG COM) - see elsewhere for members of the A2OC equipped with this kit.

Cheers,

Mike
