Hi people, im new to this forum, and have a question, whilst driving home from hertfordshire, last night, The engine warning lamp, has come and stays on. I took to Audi of bexley this morning but they want to charge £115 + vat just to plug it into there computer to tell me the fault.
Can anybody recomend a garage in he Bexleyheath Area of kent which can fault find on an Audi A2.
Hopefully it wont cost the earth and is something simple to fix

Many Thanks

any garage that has the software and computer to hook up to car can check it for you...

most places have it now as so many cars use the diagnostic stuff...

there are also club members who have the software and might be able to hook up your car...

there has been a flood of cars that have problems with the coil packs going bad so there is a good chance you just need a new one... which A2 do you have?

coil packs are between 12 and 25 quid each...

thanks for the reply, i have a A2 petrol 1.4 SE y "2001" its only done 40k miles from new, it did have a lamda sensor replaced about 8 months ago, but have only had the car for 8 weeks. its been fine till yesterday when this light came up..

Are you getting any running problems as well, or just the light on? You don't need a garage to charge you £120 for diagnostics- as Gerard mentions above I'm sure you can find a forum member who lives near you who as the software (called VAGCOM) and could do a scan for you.

Hi dan, thanks for the info, i did notice a slight drop in power, but im not to sure if it was just me driving it more cautiously, im looking at the mo for vagcom garage . Ive noticed on ebay you can buy the cable and software for windows, has anybody done this ? I know mechanics but with out vagcom stuff, would it be worth buying it myself to self scan ?

my light came on...took it to the garage(luckily my uncles) turned out it was just becuase brake light had gone and some switch inside....easy fix

engine light.

Hi Strapup, Let this be a lesson 'learnt' about AUDI main dealers, it just shows how so out of touch they are with the human race! only and i mean only, use them as a final & desperate last resort!.
Re the VAGCOM if you are PC wise?, go ahead & purchase same, it would pay for itself 100 times over, and you will also have the ability to help others/ from being ripped off by
/you now know WHO!! best of luck with your problem,
Cheers ALAN>

HI, IVE HAD THE CAR SCANNED NOW, AND THE CODE WHICH CAN UP IS ;
17545/P1137/004407 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS AND WHAT TO DO ?

THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT IS NOW OFF.

That means the car is over-fuelling. One of the feedback systems to control that is via the lambda sensor, which if that is wearing out, can't accurately read the exhaust gas composition and causes variously over, or under-fuelling and bad running. I would have expected to see an actual "Lambda sensor fault" for that, but it's still prime suspect as far as I'm concerned. Others will comment too I'm sure!
