Finally got the pollen filter cover off today, without breaking it.. it had been 'jammed' in..
Got the pollen filter out (fairly manky) but.. the internal cover thingy appears to have been bodged.
Do I need to replace this. Or can I get away without it?

If the lower edge of the panel seals well then I wouldn't worry. I would however refit then place a wanted advert in MP. I'm sure a breaker will jave one for pennies.

(hopefully) final question on this: which way round does the new filter go in? Does air flow from l>r or r>l ?

It's being a right so-'n'-so. Can't get the filter (in frame) far enough in to fasten the inner cover. There's a locating tab thing on the frame that seems to be lined up correctly, but the inner cover will not locate.

Make sure the filter is fully fitted into the frame and refit to the housing making sure it inserts correctly and fully. The tab on the frame allows you to grab the filter to remove it so it must end up on the bottom.

If no luck take a picture and post it here.

I fairly sure I don’t have a frame that the filter clips into before being inserted into the housing - is that what you mean?

Think they are no longer needed with the new replacement elements

There are two styles of pollen filter, one that requires the frame and the other does not. You will need to check the part number to work out which type you have with the manufacturer.

It appears that I was trying to fit a frameless filter into a frame and then wondering why it wouldn't close properly.
I tried using a cheap Bosch filter (£11ish) from Halfords (£9 from ECP I found out later), without filter, and presto, it closed. Much looser fit than I was expecting, but it worked.
I did use a bit of strong black tape to block cold air escaping near the legwarmer vent, as it was interfering with the heating.
(I think somebody had been a bit heavy handed with the casing in the past, as I also had to replace the broken cover)
