FSi and E5 fuel brands

Hi, this might have been answered elsewhere but couldn’t find the answer. I know very well that my FSi must have E5 fuel but does anyone have any factual information regarding what octane it should be? Most varieties are 98 or even 99 RON however noticed this morning that BP Ultimate is only 97. Should all these varieties be ok?

It is shown on the inside of the fuel flap, (and in the Owners Manual, if you have it), as 98/99 Octane.
That's Super Unleaded E5.
My FSI is a Shell V Power addict.
Mac.

Fair enough. I find it curious that there are such inconsistencies in octane level for different brands of what are all, nominally, “super unleaded”

It seems, that E5 is officially described as 97+ Octane, so is, (probably) , at least 98 Octane.
Shell say V-Power is 99 Octane, as do Esso, and Tesco of their Super Unleaded. BP say 98 for their Ultimate.
So, I think you're OK with the main brands. It's the alcohol that the problem, so any E5 is not going to do any harm. A slightly lower Octane will lower performance, but the engine will adjust timing to prevent engine damage.
Has the EML cleared now?
Mac.

Not had the time to take her out all that much but the EML’s stayed out 👍. I’m getting fairly regular glitches from the oil sensor yellow warning light (screeches, stays on a few seconds and goes out) but read that this is probably a non-OEM sensor or an iffy connection so I’ve not been sweating about it. For sure the oil levels fine and no obvious signs of leaks.
