Help…

Hello A2OC members,
I just wondered if any of you technical wizards could help me out. My friend has a 2012 Skoda Fabia and for some unknown reason it’s developed a strange intermittent fault. Basically at random points it will simply not start. When the key is inserted into the ignition it can be turned to the point where the dashboard lights up. At this point the lights eventually go out with the exception of the engine management light and the EPC light. The key will then refuse to turn any further and a message flashes up on the display saying CHECK DEADLOCK.
The car can be left any amount of time, sometimes 2 minute, others an hour or two and then it will start up completely normal without any warning lights.
The car has been checked on diagnostics a couple of times but nothing flags up.
Any ideas or advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks, JT

This thread might be moved to Relax Room Category as it's not about A2s.
Here my advice: the deadlock message is a safety feature when you stop the engine, before you leave the car, it's for you to check, if you don't leave anyone in the car, as the it locks the doors from both sides and the doors can't be opened from the inside. Apparently if you press the lock button 2x then it'd be locked only from the outside, either way it has nothing to do with starting the car, not suppose to at least, so might not be related to the non-start issue.
Epc and eml lights, along with battery light, should always come on before you start the engine, and they'd go out when the car starts up. If they don't light up when you turn the key that might be a big problem.
At this point the issue/s can be either mechanical or electrical, but without a proper scan it's difficult to know.
If the scan didn't show anything, make sure not a cheap scanner been used, as those tend to miss a lot, your friend should probably take the car to a Skoda/WV dealership and they'd probably tell him what's the isssue. Might be ccu, ignition problem, might be something else.
