Locked down rear seat (A2 1.2)

Hi guys. Newbie a2 owner here. We have put the back seat back down (battery problem) but now can't latch the seat back back into its holder! It has a moving piece but also a bar that stops me from latching the seat back. It probably an easy fix but just can't work out why the bar (or rod) from the seat doesn't move to allow the seatback to click back into place! Help!
Might be worth checking the dedicated "my seat is stuck" thread as this discusses most aspects of the folding seat mechanism both for removing and replacing seats.

I assume that this is with a conventional A2 rather than a 1.2? Do you have 4 separate seats or a bench rear seat (5-seat)?

By the sound of it, right now your seat base is down (but probably not latched completely) - and the safety mechanism related to this is preventing the seat back from locking home in the upright position. Maybe try reseating the base properly before trying to lock the backrest in place?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes 2 separate seats in the rear. Had to put 1 of the seatbacks down to get to the battery bay because the secondary opener didn't work for some reason.
