MFSW and RNSE questions

Hi all,

Just getting around to fitting a whole heap of bits that have been sat in a box for a while. I have some questions regarding MFSW.

I have fitted cruise and DIS stalks and noticed that the slip ring already has all the connections for adding a multifunction steering wheel and I have bought one already from an A6, same 4 spoke as the standard A2 but with the buttons. However I am looking for a part number for the connector on the slipring car side, below the airbag connector. Does anybody know what this part number is so I can make a loom for it?

Also, when trimming down the rnse to fit the A2, do you take off all of the excess up to the internal looking structure? I will add a photo to show what I mean!

Cheers,
Jonathan

Evening Jonathan,

When I conduct the MFSW retrofit for the later (thumb roller) type, I use the connector 4B0973605. I obtain 2 of these as they can be separated:

1. Full connector on the car side of the slip ring
2. Separated connector for the steering wheel side of the slip ring

The above connector is the very same item that can be used as the slip ring connectors do not differ between the various variety of MFSWs.

As for the RNS-E reshaping, I’ll add a few pictures below which should help.

To go from this:

To this:

You first need to mask up to ensure no cutting debris enters the head unit:

Then get your weapon of choice and remove the unneeded plastic highlighted in Blue down to the factory lower plastic arrowed in Red:

Once sanded it should look something like this:

When sanding to tidy things up I start at 120 grit and work up to 800 if I’m after a perfect finish. To be honest you could stop earlier as you're sanding something which is only seen when the head unit is removed.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the part number, I will have a look and see if I can get hold of some connectors. I have the airbag with buttons and the LIN control unit for the buttons, but I don't have the MFSW control unit yet. I believe I am looking for part number 4B0907487F from what I have read to interface with the infotainment CAN. Do you know if this is correct? And would you know where to find the pinout for this unit? I have failed in my searches to find any sort of connection diagram.

Thanks for the pics of the RNSE, that confirms what I was thinking, it need to be taken down all the way to the main frame section. I will give it a go this weekend!

Hi Jonathan,

Ive never fitted the earlier type of MFSW as I went straight in for the later thumb roller type. There is quite a few tips for this retrofit available online though, mainly for the A6 C5 which isn't too dissimilar to the A2. There of course will be subtle differences though but cannot confirm.

Have a search for A6 C5 MFSW retrofit and you'll see there are many results. This particular guide is very detailed so worth a read; just remember that the guide is for the A6 and not the A2 but I'm sure with the Electrical Wiring Diagram you'll be able to work it out.

Kind regards,

Tom
