New door mouldings?

Hi all, does anybody know whether it is still possible to buy new door mouldings (which sit half way up the doors). I am going to have some paint work done and so the door mouldings will be removed. I’ve read in another post that they normally bend on removal and can’t be refitted. Even if that’s not the case, are new door mouldings still for sale? I can’t find any online.

Thanks

Hi. All dealer Audi A2 parts were shipped back to Audi Tradition in Germany some years back and then post Brexit AT stopped supplying the UK. I'm sure I saw them on AT the other day - I think they are primed or if not, getting your colour might be hard.

@Rickmeister in Germany every few months, kindly does a bulk order to AT and then dispatched the bulk order to a volunteer member here who distributes to the individual members. Long items are difficult but Rick will be bringing larger items to the UK himself in December. He will open the process in November.

I think I saw the strips on AT's current Sale spreadsheet - see here:

Further down the thread someone has kindly extracted all the A2 items.

You need the part number and know your model codes. See LLL Parts Audi A2 catalogue here:

Once you have the part no. you can try ebay for anyone with old stock.

That’s really helpful thanks Alan. One body shop I spoke to reckoned that they had recently ordered new mouldings for another A2 at £54 each and so they included those in their quote - not sure where they would get those from - they’re not an Audi / A2 specialist and so doubt they would know to (try to) get them from Audi Tradition but you never know.

Afternoon,

I’ve had to remove these before and can confirm that they can be removed slowly but surely with causing and damage or adding any kinks along its length.

When I completed this task I first removed the nuts from the inside after a good application of releasing agent. Then started to soak the rub strips in WD40 to breakdown/loosen the double sided tape. I done the WD40 activity over a day of periodic squirts then got the trim removal pliers into action. These are the type of pliers I mean:

If you use these slowly and not to their fullest opening, this not adding any bends to the run strips, then you can achieve a fully reusable item afterwards. Just take you time and use plenty of WD40 to break down the adhesion. Another product might well be better than WD40 but that’s what I used as that’s what I had to hand when doing this.

If you’re considering purchasing new items anyway then it’s worth trying the removal first as you have nothing to lose but could foam. Y not having to purchase new items.

Once they’re off you can give them a good clean as they do come up brilliant with a good degreaser and hot soapy water.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom. I have in mind that the paint garage may not take this level of care when removing the door mouldings but you’ve got me thinking that may make sense for me to remove them before the car goes to the garage. To access the door trim bolts do you need to fully remove the inner door trip and everything else behind there?

ebay has 8Z0853954A GRU front right primed new slightly scuffed at £35 including delivery and may have others. The A2 has 4 different strips

When looking up the codes at LLL Parts you do not want the PR-A9G,A9P codes - they are for the 3L model not sold in the UK.

Personally I would give it a go. I have one to do. If the weather was cold/cool I was going to gently heat with a hair dryer as I moved along the strip.

I didn't know about the tool but I would like to see the thickness before using. I was thinking of using a long 1" Chisel Edge putty Knife but others will no doubt express caution.

As a little aside, I bought this tool pouch from ebay and it is very good. It contains all sorts of interior trim tools, plastic and steel. Its saved a lot of frustration with automotive clips and the plastic hand tools are not made of cheese and feel they would last quite a while.

HTH
