New to A2 ownership

Hi all,

I'm Dan. Recently bought a little A2 1.6 FSI sport for my wife and as you've probably guessed it is red. :)

We've owned it for about 4weeks and apart from an initial teething problem with a lambda sensor we love it. We bought it from a trader  which wasn't ideal, but the one owner, history and condition all stacked up. Plus its covered the issue with the sensor so it has it bonus sometimes.

We've been interested in the A2 for a while, looking at them a few years ago, but we finally took the plunge with this one. Got a few things to sort out namely on the wheels front, but after a detailing touch from myself, it looks no-where near 9yrs old.

The open sky roof doesn't work, which I researched prior to buying, but on the whole it's probably a luxury we will get used to not having.

Anyway a quick snap follow a bit of Zaino treatment.

All the best,

Hi Dan great looking car-quite a rare colour, usually the red ones are colour storms. It would be great to see you and your car at our socials. The next one is a great car show called AUDIS IN THE PARK AUG 11. Details are in the socials section. cheers mike

Thanks for the welcome Mike. :)

Ah that's a shame the 11th clashes with a family get together - definitely aim to attend something in the future though.

Glad to know the colour is rarer in this spec as the colour was one of the things that attracted us to it.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan, and welcome,

As you may already know, or may not, being an 2004MY, you have every opportunity to have your OpenSky System repaired/replaced for a very nominal amount due to the 10 year warranty now being offered by select Audi dealerships.

If you need anymore info on this subject, just shout and you’ll get all the info you need to get a working OpenSky.

You have a great looking car, well done on the detailing.

Cheers

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No I did not know this  all the research I did just ended with "it will be very expensive to replace..." so I left it there.

If you can provide me with the necessary information I would be very grateful.

Thanks,
Dan

Not easy to tell from a photgraph, but that doesn't look like Misano Red to me (the red used on Colour Storms), looks more like Brilliant Red LY3J, one of the standard colours available in 2004. It does suit the car though, am surprised it was not a more popular choice.

How much, er, detail, did you go into detailing your car? I'm really tempted to get my first MOP & have a go at doing mine but I hear stories about how hard Audi paint is etc & I'm a bit sceptical about nausing it up!...

I use Zaino products to wash mine with. Epic stuff.

Cheers, Hedge

Hi Hedge,

I am in to detailing in a big way, not as obsessive as I used to be as kids put pay to sustained periods spent on cars, but I have a decent collection of products to say the least (more expensive than the wife appreciates ;) ). I used to do it for the car club I was involved in 5yrs ago. Down to the point taking paint depth measurements etc.

I use a meguairs G220 for all my correction/enhancement work and selection of pads and compounds. In the picture above the A2 had a single pass of sholls S40 (from memory) on a polish pad, then topped with Zaino's Z2, Z6 and Z8. I have had the G220 for over 5yrs and it was a fantastic buy.

Audi paint is referred to hard in the detailing circles but patience and good products/methods will always see good results.

I have a black 320d E91 and keeping that in tiptop condition requires patience too, there's a pic (any excuse) not bad for 121k on the clock for a 08 plate.

Also a close up of the paint on the wing after a bit of wet sanding :)

Whilst I'm here too here's a few close up extract shots of the A2 :)

Welcome Dan. That's a lovely A2 and very shiny indeed! I can emapthise with your comment about kids getting in the way of detailing! I've never plucked up the nerve to use the rotary polisher I bought a few yeas back - but invest a fair bit of time in our motors when I get the chance now.

It'd be interesting to confirm the colour of your car. I think it might be the quite rarely seen Amulet red, it looks to shiny for brilliant red - but that may just be your fantastic efforts and digital photos decieving me.

Hope you enjoy the new toy.

Dan,

Really nice work.

Simply beautiful.

A great shame you can’t make Audi’s In The Park as I’m sure many would like to discuss your detailing techniques. Hopefully we’ll get to see you and your car at another social though.

Cheers

Jeff

Thank you Jeff :)

Yes we hope to attend a social in the future, its a real shame that Audi's in the park falls on the only weekend we couldn't move our plans this summer.

Thanks Murdo :)

Is the colour stated on the car anywhere - I will go and check.

Hi Dan, Its on the VIN sticker which ( I think) is on a panel in the lower boot floor. Its also printed on a sticker on the inside cover of the service book. As per previous poster states - its a 4 digit code beginning with L

I've checked the service book and the code inside is LY3J/LY3J - Brilliant Red it is then :)

Cheers,
Dan
