Noise when depressing accelerator

Has anyone had a problem with noise when depressing the accelerator? Mine makes a sort of "honking" noise when first depressed. My local Audi dealer (Northampton) says that it is normal and is the noise of the turbo kicking in, but I'm dubious. It seems to do it more around town and when warm. Any advice greatly received.

Could this be the famous 'mooing' sound?

Try doing a forum search on exhaust gas recirculation valve-you may just find this problem is a common one!!!!!

If it is, Audi has a fix, so tell the dealer!

Sounds like mooing to me!

Chelseaboy - welcome to the forum. This is known fault with earlier model TDi's. It is fixable by a dealer but you may have to do some insisting. As Runboy suggested, if you do a forum search on exhaust gas recirculation valve (including archived posts) you should find lots of info.

Thank you for your advice. I will have to go down to my dealer and stomp my feet a bit!

Hi Chelseaboy
Does the noise happen when you lift off the gas pedal and then start to accelerate again, If so there is a Audi mod for it.
It requires modified rubber mounts on the small vacuum unit mounting plate situated on the bulkhead under the bonnet at the passengers side. The modification does not cure it completely but you will notice a difference.
