Oil Capacity?

Can anyone advise on the oil capacity for a 1.6 FSI? I've seen both 4l and 4.5l quoted, and I want to be sure a 4l can of EDGE will fit, or whether I require a 1l bottle supplement.

How much do people manage to squeeze into the diesels? Handbook says approx.4.3 litres. I've just ordered 4l of Castrol...

My 2002 Tdi takes 4.25 litres of oil at each change when the filter element is also changed. The sump is drained fully with the front of the car slightly lifted. With this volume added, the oil level is at the top of the cross hatched area of the dipstick.

Excellent. Ta. I'll whack 4l in and go from there. I've ordered some ramps, after changing my oil in previous cars under a trolley jack... Far from ideal I know.

Am I right in thinking there's a hatch in the under tray to get to the sump plug?

I've had the air filter changed last time the under tray was off, so don't wish to waste time faffing with it.

So there isn't a hatch to access the sump plug? I've read contrasting things on the net.

Definitely no access hatch. Engine under tray is held in place with multiple Torx screws, plus a couple of 10mm nuts under wheel arch.

Run car to operating temperature, then drop the sump plug.

Yeah, cheers fella.

I've since google image searched the under tray. Really silly I believe, not having a flap near the sump plug, plenty of other cars have them. Will just make the task longer and fiddlier.
