Oil indicator light

Hi can anyone please tell me when the orange oil warning light comes on how much oil is left in the system it should be filled with 3l to be full is this correct my light came on and i then topped it up with 1l it seems to be ok on the dipstick but its not very easy to read just wanted to be sure. thanks
 
If it was the oil pressure light (rather than the oil level light)... then any extra oil could be an overfill.

Have another go at reading the dipstick. That's the important measurement.
 
As Mike said make sure you don't overfill it. That member killed his engine.

If I am correct I think there are different meanings to the light, oil pressure ect. Not always running low. I am not how they show the difference. You will have to look in your manual, I don't ave mine to hand.
