oil light

just been t blackpool and back then popped to skeg for day on way home oil light came on stopped car checked oil ok light stayed off till i got to sainburys at worksop got home left car to cool down then checked oil level ok and it should be as it was only serviced 4 month ago so why is the oil light coming on only had the car a few months.

Sorry to sound patronising, but can you confirm how you check your oil?
As far as I know you're meant to warm the engine to full temp, turn engine off, wait a few minutes, then check the dipstick.

Could the engine have been over filled?

But failing that, I can only suggest getting a diagnostic check in case a sensor is at fault.

could be a sensor prob checked it first time side of road after I had stopped the car when i got home let it stand for a while then checked it again going to check it in the morning an take it for a spin see what happens.

ive just ownerd my 1.4 petrol for 3 months, they fun fully sythetic oil and its very hard to see on the dip stick. according to maunual u could use upto 0.5 litres of oil every 1000 km's
my light came on a few weeks ago topped it up 1/2 litre light still on dropped oil refilled to recomended level light still on. went for long drive computer sorted itself out light went out and never came back on. i think the computer needs to reset itself once its decided to oil is at the correct level

yes thanks for that. Checked the oil again in the morning it did need a little top up think travelling from sheffield to clay cross every day then to blackpool and back then chaple st leonards may have used up the 0.5% of oil seems ok now any how lights gone off will just have to keep an eye on oil an check every 2 weak.
