Has anyone had a parking aid fitted.

My local dealer fits the Xvision system for £195 inc VAT.

Anyone know if it is any good, or what alternatives are there out there.

Cheers
Alex.

I'm curious, does parking aid = acoustic parking sensor system?

I had mine fitted at purchase so I cannot help, but I couldn't resist posting to this. I have sometimes mumbled something to my 'better half' that the best parking aid is a Y chromosome. :)

I still have the bruises to show for it. [B)]

Yes - parking aid = acoustic parking sensor system

I had a Land Rover Discovery before my A2 and I could park that thing easier than the Audi.

At the moment I park the car and then get out and find that I'm about 6ft away from the car behing. It's embarassing :)

I used to do the same with the front... because the base of the windscreen is so far forward my mind used to add a "normal" bonnet from there forward! Then I get out to find there are miles between my front bumper and the object!!! That stubby snout! :D As for reverse parking you soon get to learn where it is... the vertical rear window helps... far better than a sedan car where you can't see the edge...

All can say is that after not having it on the A4, and now having it on the A2, I WISH I had paid for it on the A4. :(

Every car I get in future I will specify this, front as well if available.

Maybe this is what you want:

From this week's AutoExpress magazine

Looks like a neat option that should be transferable to another car even... and no cutting of the bumper either...

I take it still have to run a wire from the rear plate to the dash indicator?. Would be neat if they could do a wireless system from plate to display. You would only need a power lead then!. Couldn't they do a system like you get in houses that sends a signal around the mains wiring-run a signal around the car wiring system so you wouldn't have the routing problem. Trouble is you would need to be carefull of the cars electronics system. But I'm sure possible!.

It could be even better. Use an acoustic system that use the reverse lights for power. It won't need a display so it can be fitted entirely in the boot. Another option is to integrate the display in the pillar next to the boot, so that the display is visible in the rearview mirror.
But then again, there's a wiring facility (kabelgoot ??) running from the battery to the footwells in the front and from there to the radio.

Anyway, I have a parking aid (retrofitted) and I never use the display. It's located beneath the radio so I have to look down to use it. I look in the mirror and I use the acoustic signal.
Couldn't park the A2 as neatly without it !
