Phil's Black 1.6 FSI

Thought I would start a thread for my A2. Going on my past history with Rover 8900's. I may well end up with more than one, like a lot of other people!
It came with a whole host of spare parts which I will list later when back home.
Got to say, I love it. I've only owned Rover 800's since 1999 and was a little dubious when my brother suggested I get one to be ULEZ compliant (If the expansion does go ahead....)
01 1st wash.jpg

1st wash. Proper pre wash, rinse, 2 bucket wash etc

I also have the smooth front panel. Think that may look better as its a black car. What is your opinion????

Happy days :)
Interior is half leather, half suede. Really nice. Recently re trimmed too!!
18 inch Mk1 TT style wheels. They are after market as they are multi hole. Think they really suit it.

03 Dashboard 01.jpg

Not too much wear. However radio seems to have the wrong face panel.
04 Light Switch.jpg

Seen a lot worse.

Will be getting the switches refurbished.

Front Drivers fog needs replacing - lens cracked on way home..
Ordered a lead so i can use Vagcom

It came with this kit, New in Box. Anyone seen/used one before? I had a google. They have a phone app that goes with it too.
Retails around £250

That's a lovely car - well bought! Can you share some interior pics to make us weak at the knees?

My thoughts:

  • @PlasticMac will be along any minute to berate that chip tuning thing :)
  • Those wheels are going to make the ride unbearable on the many speed bumps I'm pretty sure are round your way. This is one of the A2's weak points and that's why many of us choose a smaller rim - 15" Pepperpots are popular for example because they are lightweight (and will make a significant difference to how the car drives compare to the heavy wheels on your car currently) and the extra sidewall then acts hand-in-hand with the suspension to give you a ride that is tolerably comfortable whilst still being firm.
  • I prefer the existing grille as to me it's more modern, but this is purely my personal view. If you change it, I recall reading the catch for the flap must be changed too - google this topic using the term "a2oc" (better than the forum search function)
  • @jp.oog James can refurbish your climate buttons and switch gear, I haven't seen him post on here recently but he runs one of the A2 facebook groups. I would steer clear of those sticker kits you may have seen on eBay and elsewhere.
  • You may wish to consider a bluetooth auto headlamp switch - although some would say source a hard touch original for good reasons (again google this and you decide - personally I love the look and prefer the functionality and can live with the drawbacks).
Are there any repairs / maintenance items needed out of interest?

Now the fun part - what upgrades are you thinking? @timmus will be in Leighton Buzzard and available for upgrades later this year I believe - check his thread for what's possible.

Welcome, I do love FSIs, and yours does look nice in black. 18" wheels maybe an inch too far, mine's on 17" 9 spokes, and, although firm, I am happy with the ride. The short sidewalls on yours will be a bit unforgiving, but live with the car a while, then do what suits you.
Predictably, I do disapprove of remaps for FSIs, I think they should remain unsullied or at the least remain FSIs, (with functioning inlet flaps etc), but that just me. Again, find what's what with a scan, and build from there.
The most important thing is to enjoy the car and this forum. Both are "Best in Show"
Mac.

I think the chip device is likely to be the throttle response controller.

Although it won't actually make the car faster, it will mean that the throttle will open more than standard when you press on the accelerator.

If you decide not to fit it i'd be interested in buying it.

@A2Steve I think that is exactly what it does. Once I have scanned the car when my lead arrives, I may test it out. Its definitely not been used. I will let you know what happens with it/ What i do with it

The throttle response on mine is quite satisfactory. It, (or I), need no additional encouragement.

HI Phil, it's looking good! Do you fancy a visitor over the weekend?
Would be good to say Hi and compare A2s if it's convenient.
Cheers,
Richard

That’s a nice 1.6, sadly I missed out on that one Phil, the seller was on holiday when I had time to view it, and by the time they came back I had to work that took me away for the week.
