Quality shocks and springs

Hello,

I have been going through several topics related to front suspension - and found a lot of negative feedback for springs and shocks quality, and as I plan to replace both on my A2 I need some consultations:

My car is 2005 1.4 TDI (BHC) without sunroof, with standard suspension (still on original shocks [8Z0413031AD] and springs [3 blue and one silver dot]) - milage is 260 kkm.

I am considering:
1. Shocks:
A. Bilstein B4 OE Replacement 22-105813 (gas / oil type)
B. Sachs 300 032 (oil type)

2. Springs:
A. Bilstein B3 OE Replacement 37-147679
B. Lesjofors 4004259
C. Sachs 997 854
D. EIBACH R10410

The most important for me is reliability - I do not want to do this job twice ... (due to broken spring).

Does anybody have some good experiences with any of the given manufacturers ?

I will also replace bumpers, dust cover, upper bearing etc.

I used kyb springs and top mounts been fine for 28k but I would if doing the job again get the 1.4 petrol kyb springs as it's about 12mm higher than factory on standard tdi springs but does ride really well for it in fairness!

Are you sure about this - I would very much enjoy a bigger clearance ….

Bilstein and Sachs will be equally good. The Gas struts are are probably a bit stiffer.

Again all very nice brands of springs! Personally I would go with Bilstein springs and dampers

KYB are also good, but wouldn’t have been the OEM on these cars

I can measure the height if you would like? OK I will lol
65 cm from floor to arch lip, Mr grey is 64 cm but does have 16" wheels and unknown suspension but the springs do look genuine on Mr Grey

Thanks - I will measure mine today to compare it :)

3 blue dots and 1 silver dot means the front springs have OEM part number 8Z0411105AL, as shown below.
18Z0411105ALFront coil spring
3 paint marks
1 paint mark

blue
silver
L50

Some front springs that match 8Z0411105AL
Bilstein 37-147679
Eibach R10662
Sachs 997854

Lesjofors 4004259 and Eibach R10410 don't match 8Z0411105AL.

Kilen 10197 and Lesjofors 4004259 are sold to replace 6Q0411105AC, 6Q0411105AD, and 6Q0411105AP. When springs are sold to replace more than one OEM part number they tend to match the longest and/or stiffest in the range. Hence, if you want to increase the height of your front end slightly this could be the way to go...especially as Kilen/Lesjofors are very reliable springs...made in the same factory in Sweden.

Can see more than one option.

if you're going to measure, measure from the center of the wheel to the arch. Only that way can you exclude tyre size differences from the ride height ones.
