rear diffuser

guys has anyone ever fitted a rear diffuser to the a2, was looking at universal ones, would be fairly easy to fit, was thinking about it in my quest for super mpg and aerodynamics etc.

What effect on efficiency diffuser have? Especially the universal one 🤔 close to none. Way bigger effect has fully covering whole bottom of the car...

Suspect you'd be better off reproducing what Audi did with the 1.2tdi as far as possible - they had rather more cash investment in the aerodynamics and super mpg for this bodyshell than any after-market producer of generic bodykit components will have done.

Front wheel-arch spoilers, underbody spoiler, underbody fairing panels cleaning up the underside - and in the case of the 1.2, they also lowered the suspension 25mm or thereabouts. Narrower / lighter rims with suitable hubcaps. Obviously the narrower wheelarches would be more difficult to reproduce.

In terms of availability of those parts - the wheelarch spoilers from the 1.6FSi come up now and again here ; underbody spoiler is NLA but someone may have one (it is just a long / thin strip of plastic that screws onto the rear of the front subframe so could probably be mimicked) ; underbody panels closing in the exhaust and areas around the fuel tank could be done with appropriate sheet material ; suspension height reduction by 25mm could be doable with appropriate changes of springs and spring seats (see many posts from @carlston ).

Lightweighting is where it would get more complicated - are you able to remove the rear seats and any other un-needed paraphernalia in the car and still leave it usable for your everyday use patterns? Pepperpots with lower profile / narrower gauge tyres (of the available options that fit safely) would be better than larger / heavier items. As for genuine 1.2tdi suspension parts, hubs, brakes etc - forget it.

Just to emphasise the point, here is a picture of the two drive shaft ends:

thanks guys, yes am going to see if i can get some under body aero done, and wondered about a small diffuser at the back, but i think il concentrate on the underbody first.

Real functional diffuser should start where you have feet on the rear seats to achieve proper angles and shape of it. Otherwise it is useless piece of plastic. Also you will gain downforce not aero efficiency 😉

the exhaust tunnel cover needs to be remade somehow, it be nice to get a rear under tray made up and fitted though, ive got some other ideas i want to try out as well.
