The Ongoing CD Changer Challenge....

I bought an Audi 6 disc glovebox changer for 20 quid a couple of months ago with the intention of squeezing it into my A2's glovebox but I've had to admit defeat as their just isn't enough room to do a factory looking job. That said I'm determined to make use of it as it was such a bargain.

Now I'm wondering if I could utilise the under boot floor cubby hole to sneak it into (it looks single DIN sized although I haven't offered the changer up to it to confirm). My concerns are that it's a bit close to the battery (would this cause some kind of interference?) and would a glovebox changer usually mounted horizontally still work fine if it was vertically installed? Also would routing a changer cable to it be problematic?

If it is possible the downside would be that changing discs would be a bit of a pain as I have a spare wheel. I reckon it would be good for keeping my favourite albums in for longer journeys (no stopping to change discs in the Concert II) so would be a worthwhile mod.

Any help or suggestions with my new idea are welcome!

When sourcing a standard A2 boot mounted Panasonic CD changer I noted that, depending on the Audi model, there were several different part numbers for what looked like identical units. From this I guessed there were internal differences, possibly related to the orientation when installed.
Only the TT used the same changer as the A2.

This extract from some mounting instructions for an aftermarket unit kind of endorses the theory -
''Set the angle adjustment on the changer. For example, a changer mounted horizontally should have the switch set to 0 degrees, while one placed vertically will be set to 90 degrees.''

I don't know how sensitive your glovebox unit may be but before doing the installation I'd be tempted to do a trial run with the changer set up on temporary brackets to see how it performs while driving

Cheers Spike

How about installing it in the under floor area near the CCU? Mine appears to have had a cd changer mounted in there in the past, judging by the cable..
