Voids in the floor

Does anybody know what the void under the driver's footwell area is used for (UK RHD cars - for everybody else in the passenger footwell). The void has an aluminium cover and is empty. I assume there is space to install electronic accessories (amplifiers?). The manual says that a tyre compressor can go in there but mine's in the boot. There is a similar void / cover on the passenger's side but this seems chock full of fuses/relays.

Any ideas?

Apologies if this has been asked before .. I'm new to the forum.

This has definitely been discussed before so am trying to rack my brain as to what the conclusions were. I'm fairly confident that the space is used to house equipment used if you opt for the sat nav/tv options.

To be honest I'm surprise that they said you could a tyre compressor in it as I wouldn/t say that it is that accessible in the dark or emergency.

Sure,

If you have the Bose (tm) System, the compressor and tookit is fitted in the footwel. The footwell is otherwise empty and can be used to install additional equipment. A part of my navigation system is fitted there.

If you look at the pictures on the A2 Owners Club site (Stuart, you should have remembered!), you will see in the 'Forum related' picture section some photos of the voids!.

I'm still debating whether to put my cd changer in there....

Thanks for replies. I quite like the idea of using the space for something useful i.e. toolkit or audio amps/CD, rather than just an empty resonance chamber. That would also free a little space in the boot next to the battery for odds and ends.

I suppose there must be a foam tray that sits in the void if indeed the compressor and toolkit can be stowed there.

Runboy, I'm quite ashamed of myself now! I used to know all the images on my site. Then again, there are 1,073 images files spread over 173 html pages, so my memory was bound to fail eventually!

That's ok Stuart-it makes me feel better for not waving at another A2 driver the other day!!. There is really over 1000 images?!?. Blimey, they must take up some webspace!.

I'm on about 32MB at the moment, my max space is 40MB, but when it gets close I already know where I can shed about 7MB, so should be already for another year...otherwise if I have to I'll just expand the hosting limit as I don't really ever want to make the site smaller I just want it to be enormous!

Thanks for the offer.
It has just occured to me that I also have some space with the NTL dial up account that I have.

I find that about 10 kilos of cannabis resin or coke will fit easily.
