Hi,

To test the alarm switch button, close all doors and the tail gate. Keep the front hatch open, press the switch in, lock the car, and let go of the button. The alarm should then sound. If the front flap is accidentally left open, the flashing light on the driver's door will not flash as expected, signalling that the car is not completely armed.

And if @timmus has activated the "everything closed" beep, then you will get a beep after locking the car if the service panel and all doors are shut, it won't if the panel isn't.

I may be not quite right on the qualifiers here - awaiting better info.

Many years ago I had the "everything closed" beep set at a club meet by a member with a laptop and the right software, in return for a small donation to the club. Best mod I've ever done.

At the same time I also had the mod done to lock all the doors when the A2 reaches x mph (5 mph I think) to stop those nasty people trying to open the car door at traffic lights and grab wallets etc, not that anyone has tried that. I suspect it depends where you live.

I can tell you live in Trowbridge πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Lets see who is first to say what the other function of that switch is...

P.S. I know but lets see who else does.

Wow, today I learnt that the lock beep isn't standard. My A2 does that. And auto locks the doors.

Coupled with the spares I got with the car, and the Stainless foot rest, re trimmed seats, and new wiper arm that looks like one of @depronman's ones it does seem mine has had some love in the past.

Correct Ian @Proghound The switch acts as a reset for low oil warning. The system works on the principle that you have opened the bonnet to manually check and top up if required the oil level, so switches off the low oil level warning. A faulty oil level sensor will not reset.

I never knew that! You learn something here every day! πŸ™‚

Shh! I always tell people I live near Bath. Bath was the aspiration of my wife but a house in the Circus where her friend had moved too was rather a bit outside our price range. I said to her, there are perfectly good bus and train services to Bath!

I lived in Bath for 5 years, 5 mins up the hill from the circus, (renting mind) when I happily owned my first A2. Back then around 2007ish we were always on the look out for the actor Nicolas Cage who bought a house on the circus at the time.

I remember Trowbridge well, lovely place - nothing to be ashamed of there for sure. What’s the name of that old wobbly tea house there?

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart. I'm afraid that tea house is not in Trowbridge. It's in Bradford on Avon, between Trowbridge and Bath. That's a lovely place, full of old houses and the River Avon and the canal. Get's lots of tourists and well off retirees living there despite the steep hills. Downside is the traffic through the narrow streets, flooding and house prices about twice that in Trowbridge.

Alex Moulton (Moulton bicycles and Mini suspension) lived there. You can visit his house just as he left it with his bikes and designs. They still make by hand the bikes in the grounds and I was told there is a year's waiting list.
