View Full Version : How well thought out is this car

As many of the mini owners do i thought i would write the customary first 1,500 mile report and i can say there are no niggles at all.

My biggest fear in moving to the A2 was the reduction in power but i haven`t really noticed it getting in the way except for leaving the Dartford Tunnel. The car is 100% competent on the motorway and has good manners in town.

The best aspect i feel is the practicality of it from the service module all the way through to the spoiler at the back that stops you getting dazzled by cars at night.

The pinnacle of this engineering transpose`s itself in the sun visors they work so well as they are very deep in comparsion to the shallow angle of the windscreen. Everyone who has been in the car likes the middle sunvisor above the interior mirror.

The only frustrating parts of the car are the front door pockets as they are quite hard to reach the bottom of when the door is shut but that maybe because i am ham fisted.

Best of all is the economy not uite as good as audi claim but i am expecting it to rise as the miles go on and the car begins to loosen up.

Thats my 10 pence worth anyways.

One of the changes I'd like to see is the door pockets being hinged at the base so they open out about 30-40 degrees so you can get to the bottom.

I'm glad it hasn't got in the way. I guess it's driving styles, but a few times I've easily caught a new Mini Cooper S on an acclerative bit of road, and to me they don't seem to be very fast at all for a 1.6. My current car is a Punto with the base engine and so I get concerned that to get an A2 would mean slower progress. My girlfriends Corsa (which is the one we're looking to possibly replace) is slower with Vauxhall's 1.4 hi-torque engine (what a joke - it's cr@p). So how do the A2's fare in progress in varying driving conditions? How much torque do they have?

Actually a lot for a relatively light bolide.

Gav,

The person driving the Cooper S isn't trying. [8D] I personally wouldn't buy one, however have been shotgun and followed one to my suprise. A friend of mine had a little race against one a few weeks back; he was driving a Sylva Striker - Striker was faster of course, however the Cooper was a bit of a shock for him.

Hell Yeah the S is fairly deceptive as it is supercharged it has power all over the rev range but when you get them up past 4,000Rpm they come alive. Obviously i`m not going to quote porsche statstics but one of my best mate has an S3 that walks away from it rather than runs off down the road. Untill he had it chipped!
