View Full Version : A2OC Social Registration

Time to start a new thread as the other one was getting out of hand!

I have updated the site with more information about the club social. I will need to confirm numbers with the pub in order to ensure there is enough space and to pre-pay for a buffet lunch, I have set up an online form with which you can register.

If you are UK based, I will also need to receive a cheque for £5 (per person) to cover the lunch costs. If you are coming from Europe then I will let you know how you can pay in a little while.

More info on locations/hotel/channel crossing to follow shortly.

I mentioned a while ago that it is a good opportunity to buy club mugs as you can pick them up there without the risk of sending them to you in the post. These will be £10 each. If you are interested in buying one or more, please let me know. Again I will need prepayment for these as well.

As I'm probably one of the closest to Folkstone, along with JD, I'll have to try and tag onto the end of the convoy as it goes along the M20 (if thats the preferred route), which might mean some careful co-ordination and phone numbers being swapped nearer the time - unless you all want to meet at our local Tesco's for elevenses.

Quick update - about 5 A2 owners have registered already, some of which are bringing their partners/family - so about 8 people coming so far. No dosh received yet so I will firm up on the booking etc as soon as I can pay the pub.

Is there anyone out there that knows the Folkestone area quite well?
If so, do you know if there is a beauty spot somewhere in the area that we could all drive to in convoy and park up at after lunch?

Stuart

I work with someone who lives in Folkstone so I'll pose the question to them tomorrow.
The cheque was sent first class Monday morning and I assumed it would have arrived by now. If it doesn't arrive over the weekend let me know and I'll cancel/resend another one.

If tcasaca can organise a social of 6 in Portugal, surely we can top that.

I'm probably not going to get the chance to ask my source at work now until Monday due to other commitments cropping up but Wifey says one possibility is heading for Dover and parking at the viewing point on top of the cliffs. If enough people turn up I'm sure we'd be able to shunt all the other cars out of the way to make a great group shot:D

Stuart,

Had a drive around today and ended up in Folkstone. As Sunday is Market day, there was nigh on no parking in the town itself. We then went onto Dover Castle. This would make a great setting for all the cars. Perhaps if we were to ask nicely, we might be allowed preferential parking in a good spot near the castle. The only downer is it's £7.50 per adult. There's loads to do there, with all the tunnels under the cliffs, the castle itself & all its surrounding buildings.

It's somewhere like that that we could usefully end up driving to. But I think initially it would be good to meet somewhere were we can just chat or sit down, have a drink and some food (it may be raining) and then go for a drive somewhere.

How long is the drive from just north of Folkestone to Dover?

I'm hoping to make a trip down there this week sometime to check out all the routes and directions to the pub as well as book the pub.

It's roughly 10 miles between Folkestone & Dover. You have the choice of dual carriageway or smaller roads running next to the coast/cliffs.

Ah yes, it is in the south of the country.
What a surprise.

Where will we build it?
Ah yes, in the south of the country.
Lets look at the transport infrastructure of the country
Where will we improve it?
Ah yes............................................... ...........
Do you realise that it is still not possible to drive from the capital of England to the capital of Scotland on a dual carriageway road unless you detour via Glasgow?
Come on guys, there is more to this poxy little collection of islands than the Thames corridor, the M25 and the M2.
I admit it is handy for our continental cousins and the odd duty free trawl.

There are some bizarrely interesting conversations that have started in this thread! Anyway, this Saturday I am making the trip down to Folkestone to confirm the arrangements with the pub and to ensure that they actually do have spaces for 20 cars which is what they claim to have! I'll also make a run to Dover and see what the possibilities are for a convoy drive as well as some of the routes to get to the pub.

We're getting there with numbers, still would like to see more people coming though and push it up to atleast 15 A2s, not forgetting the other Golf driver who I thoought would be coming...

...JD...you out there still? Are you coming?!

Hi Stuart,

Whats the current confirmed (i.e. payed) list of people?

Kaine

Stuart_D
13-10-2002, 11:42 PM
The current situation is as follows:

- 12 A2OC members have registered.
- This consists of 11 A2s and 1 VW Golf.
- The total headcount as some are bringing their partners is 21.
- Of this 21, 12 people have paid the advance fee (which is 7 car loads, so I am currently waiting for 5 more payments...)

I'd love to get this up to 15 A2s or more...so please consider coming on the 9th Feb if you haven't already registered.

I ended up going to Folkestone today as the weather was too bad on Saturday. I met the pub landlord and talked about the buffet and parking and it all looks ok. The pub is very small but it's location is good and it's a change from the norm, so I have booked it all up with him. Plus he's on email so it makes life so much easier! He's agreed to close off a section of the car park for us, so we should have plenty of space.

Yes, of course I will be going.

Have you taken any photographs of the pub which you could put on the A2OC site ?

JD - Great, that's good news, when you have time, please complete the form online.

Including JD, the numbers are now up to 24 people, consisting of 12 A2s and 2 Golfs...so we're getting up to my desired 15 A2s!

I took a few snaps of the pub when I was there on Sunday and will put them on the site soon. The pub is extremely small and so if numbers do increase too much, I may need to rethink the choice.

Sorry, I don't know what came over me - I must have got distracted with my latest little venture of club mugs!

Right, with the addition of Kit + 1, the breakdown is as follows:

- 15 A2OC members have registered.
- This consists of 13 A2s and 2 VW Golfs.
- The total headcount as some are bringing their partners is 25.
- Of this 25, 13 people have paid the advance fee (which is 8 car loads, so I am currently waiting for 7 more payments...)

Still expecting a few more to sign up such as Runboy, hopefully Chivers plus a few others. Those that haven't paid, please don't forget to do so as it will save any stress and hassle on the day!

By the way, I have 10 club mugs now available and I'd prefer to sell them to people who are coming to the social as that way I don't have to risk posting them to people. These were originally designed by one of our own - JD and for those interested, there are no images of Tescos on them. Check out the site for more info.

I would like to confirm that the unique A2OC mugs are not available from Tesco or Harrods, and are ONLY available from Stuart. Give it a few years and Sotherby’s will be auctioning these off for a small fortune – so cash in soon.

I note that Stuart only has 10 mugs to dispose of at the social, and its clear to me that this is going to involve great bloodshed in the carpark as A2 owners fight over them – with some going home with tears in their eyes. With this in mind, and in an attempt to reduce the number of ambulances at the event, it might be a good idea for those interested in making such a purchase to inform Stuart of such intention beforehand.

Thanks John, I thought that it had vanished forever!

The good news is that 2 more people successfully registered and paid to come to the social via PayPal the other day. This brings the total number to 27 now!

There are still quite a few people who have registered but not paid...please can you do so in the next month or so.

With everyone's true forum feelings being shared [:I] I thought it'd be a good opportunity to plug the A2OC social planned for 9th February!

In the past few weeks two more people have registered and 4 more people have paid in full - so numbers are slowly climbing.

The pub we are holding the social at have agreed to close their car park to other visitors. Although it's a fairly small car park, atleast it will be jam packed with only A2s...which should be quite fun!

I recently sent out some hotel info, if you didn't receive this but need some info, please let me know and I will forward it to you. Details of the convoy drive and exact pub location will be sent out during January.

Finally, there's still space for more, so if you're free on 9th Feb and can make the journey to Folkestone, please register using the online form on the A2OC site!

P.S. Just to reiterate - this is purely a social. There will be no formalities whatsoever, ie no speeches, minute taking or topics for discussion!! It is just an opportunity for us all to meet up, have a chat, a drink, a bite to eat and then go our separate ways. Judging from some of the emails I have received, I got the impression that some people think they are coming to a board meeting!!

No problem. The current figures are:

- The total headcount as some are bringing their partners is 27.
- Of this 27, 20 people have paid the advance fee which represents 12 cars loads.
- I am still waiting for payment from 7 people from the other 4 cars.
- 3 of the A2s coming are coming from the continent (2 from Germany, 1 from The Netherlands)

There may be a few others turning up that are not accounted for including someone AmD...

Hi Stuart
WE have bought our tickets for the A2 meet-up.Friedo and we are going to travel across together.Do we need to book a B&B much in advance, are they busy at this time of year. Does the pub have a flagpole?? We were given a brand new Audi flag from our dealer. we ae really looking forward to the meeting. We are thinking about going on to Ireland from Prmbroke or Holyhead...are any of the other A2s coming from that direction...maybe we could travel back that way with them on the Sunday/ Monday??
The most important question: is there a Tesco near the pub where we are meeting...we have a very long shopping list. Have a nice weekend ; see you in Feb.
