View Full Version : Seat Altea = Audi A2? or not...

Looking at the What Car site today (not something I do often) they've got photos of the Seat Altea to be released next summer.
IIRC there have been rumours circulating about a steel bodied A2 sporting a Seat badge. Could this be it? or is it just a Touran in disguise... There's definitely something familiar about its lines - although it's a good 30cm longer than the A2.

From what I've read, this car is based on the VW Golf V, with only a slight change in wheelbase as I recall. Nowhere near an A2. I don't see anyone turning the SpaceFrame to steel and get away with it (weight-wise).
This is great looking car. Practical too, so it seems. Will arrive next year and debut in Geneva.
Reminds me of the Honda Jazz too, btw.

It will also form the base for the Audi A3 five door and thus the quatrro allroad version as well...

Autocar comment that it will sell alongside the present Leon which won't be replaced until 2005!. Why this long?. Although the Leon replacement is radical looking so maybe the Altea is to break people in gently!.
I think it looks good, but then I always have had a soft spot for Seat's.

Very nice indeed...
At a first glance, to me, it seemed to be an A2 transformed... but since it as a Golf V platform, its a complete new model.
Btw, a very acttractive new model.. [23]
... perhaps a good substitute for A2!

Now thats a good looking car. The only thing I'll say is that rear three quarter visibility looks like it could be a problem - and possibly a bit Kia Rio in the rear lights.
Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a 1.4SE petrol. http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/uk14.htm http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/safety.htm

The rear does look a bit "dumb"... and the rear window too small... but all in all it is far nicer than the Touran and they both do the exact same job! Nice one...
