Now that the UK Driving test includes basic car maintenance, there may be a need to get under the bonnet of the car during the driving test. As it can be quite awkward to do this in an A2, and is not easy to do quickly, does this mean that you cannot take your driving test in an Audi A2????

well,
it might be easier as the fluid check action is all done from the front flap...
anything else you can just say hey dude, this baby is factory sealed man....
i doubt they will bother with getting out the toolkit or blowtorch...

Sorry if your post was tongue-in-cheek, but I thought they showed you a picture of an engine with the necessary parts, tanks, dipstick etc labelled and the questions would be multiple choice "which would you use to check the oil level-a,b,c?".
If not I'd take the test again in a Toyota Prius just for the heck of it!!!!!

This is not part of the theory test but part of the practical! My son has his in two weeks. I think they only expect you to know how to check oil and washer fluid since his instructor (Doing test in a diesel corsa) showed him where these are. You neet to show them what you check but you do not actually have to take the dipstick out, you do need to open the bonnet.
The point about the A2 is a real one since I could not see the power steering reservoir when I looked for it - with bonnet removed!

Oh right-so when you turn up for the actual driving test, they ask you to open the bonnet and point out items and say how you would check them?
I'll tell the girlfriend who is having her third driving lesson on Saturday that it's something else she has to learn!

Yup - thats how Clive explained it to me, he was surprised when his instructor told him to park and released the bonnet to show him what he needed to know.

It is a hydraulic systeem, the hydraulic pump is electrical driven, it hasn`t got electrical driven steering like the new Audi A3. The steering reservoir is situated below the left headlamp.

Thanks, will look again at the weekend, one year old and 7,500 miles to go to service. And the wife still thinks A2 services are expensive. She wants to change it for a Streetka in March before the first service is due!

I looked last night, the tank we have uder the left hand side headlight is the windscreen washer bottle - still not found the steering fluid but I can see the pipes to the rack so it is only a matter of time.

For those with friends/relatives about to take their driving test the DSA information sheet sent to my son reads as follows:
"Car & Motorcycle
At the start of the test, examiners will ask candidates two questions on checks that should be carried out on their vehicle or machine before beginning a journey (Vehicle Safety Checks)
Candidates will be asked to show or tell the examiner what they would do. Some of the questions may require the candidate to open the bonnet on the car."
