In the latest issue of WhatCar? they did tests on the drivers visability, with the A2 coming 41 out of 50 (with 1 being the best for driver visability).
Have a look at this link:

Must be those thick pillars at the front that knocked points off....

I was suprised with the Yaris too-I've driven them on a number of occasions and thought they were fine. Interesting with the Disco-all this about being higher up giving good views etc etc
And yes, I had to sit down with a cuppa after the moderating bit-took it out of me. Might need sugar levels bringing back up-biscuits!!!!

After driving the new A3 yesterday the A2 does not have a tiny rear window... A3's is smaller or shallower - though it does not distort everything behind you to Noddy cars!

I think that my rear view is a bit more restricted than most due to the spoiler.

i don't mind the visability issue on the pillars...
part of the reason why they are so thick is for crash protecion....
i've driven far worse cars! heh heh...

They are not thick for crash protection, they are thick because they are made of aluminium and an aluminium extrusion is bigger than a steel one to give the same strength... Look at the new Renault Espace's A-pillars... thin as you can get, yet the car has a 5 star NCAP rating...
