As promised here are some of the pictures I took at Frankfurt this past weekend when I was there. Being the flagship German show Audi had THREE A2s there vs the one they had at Geneva tucked in a corner. They were also all 3 the new "facelifted" version.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-2/11882/IMGP1712.jpg
I also got the latest A2 brochures. It still has the original pictures in it from the first brochure I got in 2001! But they touched it up a while back with new floppy wipers and now they touched up the exact same pictures with the new grille! Why not just get new pictures taken! Weird money pinching...
But anyway. The brochure also had the performance spec of the new 1,4 90bhp engine!!! Fuel consumption is quoted EXACTLY the same but 0-60 goes from 12,6 seconds to 10.9 seconds (1,6 FSI is now only better by a second at 9.8). Top speed goes up from 173 to 188. Power goes up from 55Kw at 4000 to 66Kw at 4000 and torque goes up from 195 at 2200 to 230 at 1900-2200... Kerb wieght up by 10Kg as a result too for some reason. May be the new RED i badge on the rear weighs more?! :)

The new grille looks good. Better than I expected:

A great discovery Johann: you found it three hours before I did! The 90 bhp version runs on 175/60 R 15 tyres as standard(!) and has disc brakes all round. The emissions are a little higher than the 75bhp version, but are still very low by the standards of other cars.

It meets Euro4 emission standards I heard so will be exempt from the 3% diesel surcharge.

Johann - what you mention about the brochure pictures is quite common.
The UK version of the Beetle Brochure has LHD New Beetles, but they are photshopped to RHD, but occasionally they miss some things or leave them as LHD i.e. handbrake leevr on wrong side of centre tunnel and things like that.
I cant imagine that it is cheaper to photshop than to take a couple of new photos but seems the whole group does it.
Good links btw.

I have 2 Mondeo brochures with the same picture, only the car is different (model and colour. Same spectators, same pose/expression, same birds on the road - just a differnt car!

Johann-Good report. Wished I was there!. I like the new grill...I think....and the new diesel engine sounds a good improvement. Bet it moves with the extra torque. Wonder if prices will increase?

Oops, I forgot that! I have the price list as well... can't remember now but it was roughly 1000 euro more... so £700 in proper money.

Usual confusion at Audi. Croydon Audi has a 2004 car with the old service flap (chassis 4N004563)

That's like my second (replacement A2). It was a 2003 model with larger fuel tank but not the floppy wiper. Dealer told me that from XXXXX chassis number floppies were put on. This was despite Audi putting out info, even in their own magazine, that 2003 models would all have larger tanks and floppies. Maybe they once had a Mr A Blair working for their marketing department.......

That's like mine, built Sept 2002, larger fuel tank but no floppy wiper.

If yours is a 2003 model then demand the wiper (if you want it). As I said, Audi's own magazine they send out to owners had a piece on the 2003 A2, and said the floppy wiper was included. I asked my dealer who told me the chassis number tale-of-woe but said as a "goodwill" gesture they would order and fit the wiper. And yeah, like if it wasn't goodwill I wouldn't have made a fuss!. I would have wiped the floor with them, using the Audi magazine.......

Thanks Steve, I'll try that. I was a bit disappointed when I picked up the car and it didn't have the floppy wiper which I was expecting as per the Audi magazine article. I even had a test drive in a new FSI Sport which had the floppy wiper.

I understand the new floppy wiper business - i'm looking to get a 2003 model - but i've read on www.channel4.com/4car that the suspension was also uprated to give it a better ride - is this true?

I think this was a bit of a mess up with words-I understand the new 1.6FSI was to get a revised suspension (or was it the into of the sport models???). I don't believe the basic 1.4 has had any suspension updates. It was one of those rumours going around. I think the 2003 models just had floppies, larger fuel tanks, possibly trim/option differences.
Anyone else like to confirm/tell me I'm wrong!!!???

My understanding (based on 1.6 FSI Autocar road test April 10 2002) was that the FSI alone had an 8mm lower front ride height and stiffer front springs.
The Sport package on any model has the 17 in wheels and 'quattro gmbh' suspension.
I think you're right Steve, the only change in suspension has been the introduction of the Sport model with its slightly lower ride height and firmer ride. This suspension has been tuned by Quattro Gmbh.

Just been past Alexander Audi in Huddersfield, noticed a silver A2 Sport with body kit in the showroom so thought I'd have a look. Spoke to a salesman who knew nothing about the 90 bhp TDi, neither did he know anything about the facelift for 2004. He looked on his Audi computer but could not find any info.
Do they have an interest in the cars they sell or do they just sit around drinking coffee all day? This is the second Audi dealer I have spoken to with the same result.

Like the new grille, that's the only thing i dislike on my FSi but when does Porsche get their naughty hands on this car and make an RS version ?

The audi.co.uk website has details of the 89 bhp 1.4TDI; it's in the Press Releases section, 17th October.

When I was dealing with the Audi dealer, it was around the time of the 2003 updates (floppy/bigger tank) and the dealer whipped out his large (oo-er) lever arch file with a raft of Audi info releases.
I bet Alexander Audi in Huddersfield probably return them to Audi UK marked "not known at this address"......
