removal and muonting a new ash-tray-set

When I got my A2 ,the ash-tray assembly was broken :The in/out-mechanism is not even there any more.I will order a new from dealer but i wonder how to get my fingers in to do this job??The empty-room above also seems unremovable.
can anyone help?
