I can't seem to access the "Accessing On-Board Diagnostic" described on the site[3]. I "Press and hold the recirculation button. Then press the manual flow control up arrow", but nothing happens. Should the information show up on the temp.display?

No.
Despite the many sources found on this and other forums, these 'secret' combinatios will not result in aything on the A2, on any model.
It's a pity. Tried it myself too, to no avail. Seems like only A3 and up get it, somehow.

Yes,

The recirculate and up arrow button combo works on the A3/TT but not on the A2.

There could well be a similar system for the A2 but I've never found mention of it.

I have an A3 and it can be very useful, if distracting !

The first thing I managed to recuperate from my system was this German source:

http://www.audi4ever.at/faq/pdf/klimacodes.pdf

Here's another one. It's for the TT, but they're all the same. Makes you wonder why they left out the A2?

Why not buy a vag-com lead - plug into ur laptop and u can access almost everything and change things easily e.g.

- remote locking via speed
- horn beeps when locked
- change lighting module
- check for faults
- map out a live torque curve
- look at live fuel consumption
- activate cruise control
- reset/check service intervals
- activate/deactivate DIS

to name but a few.

Second hand leads for £30 upwards.

Don't you need the software that goes with the lead? And isn't that the major cost, in this setup?

If I recall correctly, the A2OC had a 'fund raiser' last year to collect money for the club to buy the software (and the lead ;)) for club purposes...so it must be expensive. Much more so than just pushing a few buttons and see some fancy numbers on your CC display, hence my own and other's interest in this.

Cheers,
Edo

Edo - you are correct, we did buy the lead and software which was around £150.00.

Ade currently has it as he is learning how to use it with the software.

It is quite easy to use. Alot of info can be found here:

www.ross-tech.com

or

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/

Nothing specific to A2 but i use it on both my A2 and A4 and the control modules are the same.

Like I said: $499 for VAG-COM software and leads, together. Not funny for 'just watching', nor is it any good if you don't know how to use it (hence the club's efforts to get to know it)

But thanks for the info, of course!

<joke>: can't the VAG-COM software unlock the climate control's secret codes??? ;)</joke>

Simmo,

Can you explain: "activate/deactivate DIS" ?
This if on dash with the complete DIS area, right?

Cheers,

Activate DIS - With the full DIS package - on my A4 - so i am assuming the same of the A2 (my current A2 has not got the full DIS but the new one on order will have it), with Vag-Com i can turn on/off the on-board computer functions, set 1 or 2 computer memory functions or just deactivate it entirely so that it just shows miles to go til fuel needed.

Not partic relevant - but also you can set the language of the DIS on the A4 for Driver Messages.

I am a new owner of the VAG-COM. used it on my Passat 1.8T, my brothers Passat 1.8, other cars (inc a 1993 golf 1.8) and my wifes 2001 A2 - works fine. I even reset the service interval on the car. Not got into changing 'settings' yet - gimme some time :-)

If anyone has got any codes for the A2, would be much appreciated.
