I am bidding for one of these on ebay. If I can get it for a sensible price I will offer it to members at cost plus a contribution to the club. I do not need this part myself as I have an SE.
Under the circumstances it would eventually help someone in the club, maybe even you, if you do not bid against me on item

Well done! That's a very good find, considering that no one seems to want to make the rings as an aftermarket accessory.
Incidently, how would you suggest that someone would fit this? Via a dealer or do you think it would be practical to do themselves?

OK - I give up. Bidding has so far reached EUR 62,00, about £41.50. I will not bid furthur: I cannot be certain anyone wants to buy the surround at this price. If you want to bid on then you need to go to

Fitting: I would have to ask a dealer. My guess is it would involve removing the steering wheel, removing two screws at the bottom of the surround, easing out the surround with instruments attached and detaching the instruments on a printed circuit board as a unit. But that's my guess.

The fitting should be relatively easy, it was done on the german club“s first big meeting last year in ten minutes (by Thomas aka A2TDI)...
Bye, Frido.

The instrument panel insert on ebay went for 71,00 EUR - about £50. A similar unit but with all the instruments (retail exchange price 450,00 EUR = £250!) just slipped through my hands in the last 4 seconds, for only 76,02 EUR - about £53.
I think these were quite unusual items to be offered brand new. Sorry to anyone who was hoping to get this....

Another instrument surround with chrome rings is on ebay Germany, and also a complete instrument unit with chrome rings out of a petrol car with DIS, but km only on the speedometer. I understand from an Audi parts man who knew immediately what I was talking about that the black fascia panel with rings (which is what people want) separates easily from the printed circuit panel with guages. I do not know at this stage if the instruments themselves separate from the printed circuit panel. I know that the black fascia panel is not available separately.
If you are interested in having a black fascia panel please say here in the next 2-3 days what you would be willing to pay. The seller tells me postage will be 19 Euros extra - about £12. Please reckon also with a contribution to the A2OC, which is why I am willing to do the business (in German.) I am looking to make nothing for myself out of this, and do not want to lay out too much money for it if no one is interested at this point.
I still believe these fascia panels rarely come on the market. They only come from crashed cars or when Audi dealers put exchange instrument panels into cars fitted in the factory with no-rings fascia panels.

In the past, lurkers on this forum have seemed quite interested in the idea of adding the SE dashboard to early standard model A2's. Because no one has responded to my previous post I assume there is little interest in instrument panel fascias with aluminium rings at present. I have not bid on these items on ebay today. For your information the complete instrument unit with aluminium rings for a petrol car with DIS display went for 100EUR and the instrument panel fascia on its own went for 77.21EUR.
I think this thread can now be closed.
