Hello,
Not that I want to detract any attention from the German social next week, but I think it's about time we had a UK social event and I'm thinking that it should be somewhere in centre of England, perhaps north of Birmingham but south of Manchester.
Can anyone suggest a suitable venue or meeting place? Maybe somewhere like the Heritage Motor Centre (http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/meet1.htm)? Or it could just be a large car parked pub where a room and food could be a booked (http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/meet.htm).
If this event went ahead later in the year, would you be interested in coming along?
Thanks,
Stuart.

Thanks Shaf.
Yes we'll definitely be getting a stand again at Castle Coombe, hopefully with more A2s than last year, so the above mentioned social is additional to this.

Thanks for the suggestion but this social will be in the UK so that lots of people in the UK can get to it for the day with the minimal cost - which rules out leaving the country.

I'm still peeved at having to miss the Germany social, so I shall try my damndest to attend the other socials this year.
Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

I've been trying to get some idea for a good location (whilst continuing the motoring theme!). So far, have come up with the following:
Beaulieu National Motor Museum (down south!)
http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/
Montagu Ventures Ltd
John Montagu Building
Beaulieu
Brockenhurst
Hampshire
SO42 7ZN
The Transport Museum
http://www.bammot.org.uk/
(Birmingham)
Chapel Lane,
Wythall,
Birmingham B47 6JX
Cotsworld Motor Museum
http://www.cotswold-motor-museum.com/
The Old Mill,
Bourton-on-the-Water,
Gloucestershire GL54 2BY
Does anyone have any preference or other ideas?
Thanks.

Beaulieu is about 2 hours SOUTH of London... so I don't think we'd get a lot of interest...
So the others fine... you could also think along the lines of planes and things technical like the Space Museum in Leicester... being a car club does not mean we have to look at more cars... we can go somewhere like Duxford or the Train museum in York etc as well...

An A2 outside there would be great!
The museums (yes, there are a few hangers!) have many car, lorry, tank combinations so it isn't all planes planes planes. They have a nice cafe there too.

Guys, before you get too excited about Duxford, can we please have the social in a more central part of the country. Norfolk might as well be London for those of us travelling from the North West/Yorkshire. I thought we'd agreed the Midlands to be fair to everyone.

Shaf - you're absolutely right.
We'll shelve Duxford for now - and aim to use them in early 2005.
The venue does really need to be further north.
I'll keep hunting!

Drat! I liked the look of Duxford, but I know what you mean!
Norwich is actually just north of Birmingham if you look at the map, and we have lots to do.....urm, well, we have....urm...
How about Chatsworth House in Derbyshire-nice countryside, good driving routes. Near to the Cat and Fiddle pub (was the highest pub in Britain at one time, now probably 2nd or 3rd). People can have a photo of their A2 in front of a lovley house. You can then have a walk around the house, or the grounds, or both, go for a drive to Bakewell for some Bakewell tart, into Buxton for some Buxton spring water.
Just an idea.

Can we try further North!! since all the socials so far have not been in a stones throw of Manchester.
Plus it's alot of driving for me to get to these socials
Birmingham area to oxford area would be a middle of the road destination for everyone don't you think!!

I'm confused! Are you saying you want closer to Manchester (which Derbyshire is getting there) or closer to Oxford/Birmingham?
Do you live Manchester way?

Reply was delayed did'nt see the other comments made by shaf which i agree with, and yes i live just south of manchester near Lymm Park if any of you know the area, so it is always a big trek to go south of London.

hello
not very far for me so great!!
But don't want to make it hard for anyone who comes from down south,
So a compromise birmingham to oxford area is o.k. with me so as to get more members to come.
Its a bit unfair to expect people from the London, Kent etc to drive all the way upto Derbyshire so if we make everyone travel roughly about the same distance to get to the social, then that will even everything out and no-one has any gripes about the distance they have travelled.
Obviously the German trip was a special trip and everyone had to travel a fair way.
But if we are having a U.K social then somewhere in the middle between manchester and London is fair on everyone.
Sorry to waffle on but i will try to think of some venues in the above stated areas, and once again my opologies for replying out of sink with the conversation and causing confusion with you. [24]:)
Cheers

No worries-hope I didn't give you the impression I was getting narked-I wasn't!
I don't know if we have any Scottish A2 owners who would say Derbyshire was in the middle for them!. In fact I don't know who our most northely A2 owner is-probably you in Manchester so far (who has made themselves known anyway!).
The thing with Derbyshire is that the M1 runs through it so it may be easier for some southerly bods to get to-it's not always the distance but the quality of roads. We suffer with that in Norfolk, not having any motorways and few good A-roads. You can live only a few miles away but the road to it is dire!
