Has anyone seen any pictures of this forthcoming car? Having driven the 3 door version and liked it very much, the 5 door version is on the potential shopping list when our second nipper comes along (the A2 is a great car but lacks space for a growing family).
Any info/pics/weblinks appreciated!

I have only seen Photoshop jobs in the AutoExpress magazine but nothing "real" yet... they will be out soon I should think since the car goes on sale in the UK in November. Expect the new horizontal tail lamps at the rear as per the soon to be launched facelifted A4 Avant... But I also expect the car is not called an Avant becuase it is neither station wagon nor proper hatch... so it will be too small to be Avant and too different from the back to be just a 5 door A3... I can't wait to see it though...

Expect Sportwagen or Sportback - both have been registered.
However, it MUST be long 'cos the 3 door is well over 4 metres!

I've managed to find a few images from what appears to be a Latvian auto website. These might be computer generated images but they look pretty good:

The full article is here http://www.iauto.lv/article.php?sid=5139 if anyone can translate it!

Front is correct rear is all wrong... buy this week's autoexpress magazine. The first undisguised prototype is in there... and as I thought it has horizontal rear lights... much like the A8's.
I don't have a scanner, so took a pic and here it is:

I think it looks quite smart, do you think this is this an allroad version?

That is the one I want... the allroad... it looks less fat at the rear than the A3... I like it!

Before you know... I'd say less than a year and you won't even notice the grille anymore... why we had vertical grilles in the 20s and 40s... then in the 50s and 60s they became horizontal... people moaned then as well I guess... and now? well life is just going another circle... vertical grille soon to be on Rover, Astra, all Volkswagens and have been on the Chrysler PT Cruiser for yonks now...

Just been browsing around Audi's website and they are starting the promotional push for the Sportback by registering interest in the car. Details released early June, with the car in the dealers by September. Here's the excerpt:
"The Audi A3 Sportback is coming
Following in the tracks of the new Audi A3, launched last year, the new Audi A3 Sportback is set to hit the streets in September 2004.
The new A3 Sportback is a car to be reckoned with. Its low athletic styling and powerful engines make it an exciting new 5-door addition to the Audi range. You'll be seriously tempted.
The car is due to be unveiled in the UK in early June 2004. To be one of the first to receive updates and official photographs of this exciting new model, register your details here."
