oil consumption

Does anyone know how much oil the diesel engine uses up, when both running-in from new and when fully run-in? I heard it's about 1 litre every 3000 miles. Is this right? Thanks.

I top mine up every 7000 miles, about half a litre. Since the 1st service I've topped up once and that was after 10000 miles seems to be getting better.

Ours got 1/2 a litre at about 8000 - when the light came on. Serviced at about 13k two months ago.

Mine has used 2 litres in 24,000 miles - it used more when it was new, but uses very little now.

Mine used a litre and a half in 15,000 miles (TDi 75).
The car I've just taken back (TDi 90) covered 3,400 miles in 11 weeks and the oil level on the dipstick was on minimum but the oil light hadn't come on.

1. Mar 2001 TDi 75 SE, Silver, black/grey interior, climate, winter pack.
2. Nov 2002 TDi 75 Sport, Silver,black/grey interior,climate.
3. Jun 2004 TDi 90 Sport, Silver, wrong interior (black/black), climate, front fogs.
4. Sep 2004 TDi 90 Sport, Silver, black/grey interior, climate, leather/alcantara, front fogs. HID Xenon's.

Mine showed the warning light while I was on holiday in Italy (great timing, not!).
At that time I'd done over 35000 km (nearly 22000 miles), from new.
Filled it up with 1 liter of oil, almost raising it above the max level on the dipstick (if you can ever trust that).

Seems like my car uses the least oil of all cars so far ;)
Or my dealer topped it up without me knowing it, although it has only been in for a serious rattle and chiptuning. (My car's a company car, so I never see any bills).

None at all in 26000m, but did have a VSI service at 18000m.
