View Full Version : Hi, first car - thinking of an A2
Hi people, I am in my final year at uni, graduate in July and have a graduate job lined up for september so I have started to think cars...
I really like the A2, but I have a few questions;
Does it really only get serviced every 31k?
What does a dealer charge typically?
What insurance group is the 1.4 petrol? (I have 0 no claims since I have never been 1st driver but 4 yrs driving).
Would you buy new, ie £12495 or pre-reg?
Is BOSE worth it (I really fancy it)?
Any other MUST HAVE options?
Any advice or other info is much appreciated,
Mike.

Hello there,
Should not really be me that comments on this car, cos I'm a new owner. Only purchased my A2 1.4 petrol approx. 2 weeks ago, but have grown really attached already. It's a cracking little motor. Currently getting over 40mpg on my short runs to & fro work. I can imagine that on a long run, I should hit about 46mpg. My service plan (long servicing) is 17k or 2years (which ever is the sooner). Not come across anything longer than this. Insurance group is 5. I'm getting on a bit now (knocking on the door of 37) and my yearly bill is £220 which is fully comp. + protected no-claims. Not everyone will agree with me, but I love the 'open sky' roof system which makes the car seem so airy and light. A bit noisey when open though.
Good luck in your hunt if you decide to go ahead.
Regards, Scott

Yes the diesel has 32000 mile intervals. I have the BOSE and can highly recommend it. As well as the Open Sky sunroof, though the latter is pricey. As the car is on a run out I would buy pre-reg. Also go for a test drive in both diesel and petrol as they have distinctly different characters and due to the A2's tiny fuel tank you go far further between fill-ups in the TDI than the petrol.

Thanks, I have been leaning towards the TDI since reading posts and things on here, although I am tempted by a 1.6fsi too... I wouldn't be buying now though, august next year really, when I finish UNI... think it will still be onsale?
It's looking doubtful I'd say. But a nearly new, pre-registered one should be a bargain by then. I'd also recommend the TDi (90PS) in my unbiased opinion ;)
2004 1.4 TDi (90) SE, Cobalt Blue, Climate control, Cruise control, DIS, Sport seats, Winter pack, Symphony II.

Highly unlikely to be still on sale. The new special edition A2 is a sure sign of a run-out at the factory. 6 months of sales left tops and even so you won't be able to order any real options...

Not so Johann. Friends of mine have just ordered a new A2 with all the bells and whistles. Leather, full sat nav plus, Bose etc. The special edition is the only one left but you can still spec it up.
Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

OK. But in a few month's time you won't be able to I would think... that is the reason for run-out special editions: to make life easier for suppliers and the factory in order to get ready for whatever else they are going to make in the factory.
