Whoosssssh hissing noise under accelaration?

For the past few hundred miles my car has started making a whoosh hissing noise under accelaration from about 2500rpm and up. Sounds like a hole in a pipe and the poor thing is ferociously trying to suck air in somewhere! Any idea what this could be (before I take it to MrAudi?)

My rear gas struts also need replacing as the boot does open as fast as it should anymore. I can't seem to figure out how to easily remove and replace these. Anyone done this before?

Is you A2 down on power...?

If so it could be the hose from the turbo. if not, the hose to the turbo.

No, it has normal power. I also thought turbo, but knew if that had been the case it would have been substantially down on power. I guess MrAudi will need to have a look... AFTER Xmas though!

Had the whoosh checked out today when I had the tracking done at SG Smith of Beckenham... and it is a cracked intercooler!!! Oh dear! They did not have one in stock and guess how much for a new one fitted? £360!!!! Why? They have to take the front bumper off to get to it! [29]

The gas struts they also did not have in stock... thankfully I think. Only £182 for the pair fitted!!!!!!!!!!!! How on earth can two struts be that much? Has anyone replaced their own struts? [21]

Basically there not that much to AUDI!!!

In reality, suppliers are screwed by the manufacturers to supply after market parts at the same price as volume. The only difference in price for Audi is the special aftermarket packaging and shipping required.

Aftermarket sales usually average at around 300% for the manufacturer. Saying that, I would guess the dealer doesn't see much of that.

I have changed the rear boot struts on previous cars and it took me 15mins each one. But to be honest I have not even looked how the A2 ones are fitted. I can't imagine they would be that complex, maybe a few more plastic coverings etc. It does help though to have another pair of hands to hold the boot open whilst you change the struts over.

I agree with Will, changed one on a Sierra many years ago, needed a piece of wood to prop the tailgate open as it was too heavy for one strut to support. Fitting was just a case of removing two clips, changing strut (Tailgate needed to be fully open or strut partially compessed) and re-fitting clips. Would expect A2 to be similar.
