Alternaitive Spare Wheel

Just for peace of mind I'm looking to get a wheel of some sort that would suit as a spare. I'll probably keep the wheel in the garage and take it with me on long journeys.
I have a TDi sport with 17" alloys. what sort of wheel should I be looking for?
I've found a VW space saver from a golf with 5X100 PCD ET38 which I believe might fit. can anybody confirm this?
was also thinking about maybe making my own MDF false floor and strapping the wheel down with small rachet straps.
Alternatively a full size alloy or steel wheel from another VAG car might fit the bill as a spare. how about a 15/16" alloy with 55 profile (or whatever) tyre to make it the same diameter?

thats the spec for my A2 TDI Sport with a 205 tyre, if you look inside area behind the wheel nut cover cap on the wheel centre it will tell you what your wheel spec is. A full size spare won't fit flat this is why Audi supplied a deflated spare wheel, you will fins Audi charge £200 for a spare, trobtaining a tyre from a specialist the make used by Audi I believe is a collapsable Vredestein. Hope this helps.

Yes - its a vredenstein.

Spoke to a local Vredenstein dealer a couple of years ago and they refused to supply one direct - Audi only.

THat may have chnged with the death of the A2.
