Leather gear lever boot

I've asked this before, however just in case someone does know. How do you remove the gear lever boot from the gear knob.????

Good question - one I never managed to figure out when changing over from black to red.
I think there is a ring that pushes up inside the gaiter & the whole lot pushes up inside the lower part of the knob & locks tight - but i couldn't get our old one apart.

There is a crimp ring which holds the assembly together. This needs to be cut (ie destroyed) to remove the old gaiter.

Audi supply a new one with their gaiters, but if you dont have one, either a jubilee clip or heavy duty cable tie will do.
