I seem to remember in some distant post that Audi did not approve the fitting of a towbar to an A2 therefore it would be illegal. Have things changed, or did this refer to a specific model? Maybe the law in England is different, anyone know?

The towbar was a factory-fit option.
SKYMAN did a great job of retrofitting a genuine Audi towbar back in Feb 2005
Check out the archives and the attached link for more info.

In fact theres a weird shaped hole under the floor in the boot of mine especially to store the removable towball on the factory option

I did think a nicely hidden towbar that doesn't ruin the lines of the car would be very handy. Having seen the pictures I'm a little put off by the size of the job. Very nice job

To be honest it isn't a very hard job just very time consuming, I thought i could do it in a day, but as the day went on, and i had only owned my car for a week before i fitted it, i wasn't that familiar with the car. I reckon i could do another one in a day now because i know what to remove and how to remove it. For anyone trying for the first time allow a weekend and you'll be ok.

What i found strange was in the accessory catalogue it said you had to have climate control in order to be able to fit the towbar. I did so was not worried. However when i went to fit it i couldn't see the reasoning behind it the towbar bolted on to original points, and the wiring just plugged into the original rear light cluster along with power from battery and earth. So i could not see how it made a difference if you had climate or not.

Hi
Could be that cars with climate control have a bigger capacity cooling system. This would be an advantage if you are pulling the max towing weight in hot weather.

Like someone else said it is to do with the extra cooling capability, in the same way most audi automatics if used for towing require an extra cooler
